EVERYTHING ALWAYS

Command those who are rich in the present age not be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. (1 Timothy 6:17 NKJ)

I was reading about Saul and the time that God told him to destroy everything but Saul and the people thought that there were some things that were just too good to destroy! We all know that it is easy to give up what we don’t value or see as important, but what is easy is not always what is best. Trusting God in all things and with all things is the way to life.

Jesus chose the hardest way of all and He chose to take that path for the benefit of everyone who would believe in Him. To Him, we were all worth it.

When Paul wrote to Timothy he made a statement that was good for the ages. Trust in God above everything else. God gives us all things to enjoy! Anything that that is elevated above Him in our lives is no longer enjoyable. There is no doubt that other things can provide a little pleasure but pleasure is not joy. Pleasure without God is fleeting. Often times, pleasure cuts us off from the joy that God has for us.

In the case of Saul and the people, they had the Joy of the promises of God waiting for them but the pleasure of some evaporating treasures cut them off. The whole kingdom was ripped out of Saul’s hands and given to another by his refusal to entrust everything to God’s plan.

We have the blessings of the word of God to lead and to keep us going and growing. As we go, we may stumble along the way, but with each stumble we have the opportunity to become stronger in the Lord and the power of His might.

If we have ever experienced the Joy of the Lord, we know that there is nothing that can compare to it or to Him. So why are we so easily distracted? We can learn not to allow distractions to turn into attractions. This is strengthened as we develop our determination to take everything, always, unto the Lord.

Some distractions are actually for the advancement of the Kingdom. For instance, Jesus spoke to the woman at the well against all tradition and changed a city. We to may have those things that seem out of the ordinary and perhaps not even comfortable; but they are from the Lord. The more we practice His presence the more we will follow His lead.

Again, life is found in the Lord. Everything always in the Lord! If there is anything in us that balks at that thought, then we are in a Saul mindset that says I know what God wants, but what I want is not so bad!  The problem with that thinking is that is robs of what God really wants from us and for us. Is there any joy in that? May everything always be as unto the Lord!
