EVERYTHING ELSE
Praise the Lord, who is my rock. (Psalm 144:1a NLT)
Nothing could be better than worshipping you. You are almighty. You are above all things. You are my everything, Mighty God.
Once again God brings to my mind a spontaneous chorus that we sing at Hosanna. God is our source. He is the main thing. He is in fact the everything of everything. Everything else is just that; everything else.
For some time now, God has been impressing me concerning the things around me. When we think of entertainment our first thought is that it is entertaining, but entertainment’s value varies. What entertains one person is not necessarily entertaining to someone else. Like food, some is sweet, and some is sour. Some is worth our money, and some is a rip off!
That is why life is good at times and not so good at other times. That is also why we cannot allow everything else to control us. We must instead turn to the source of all things, the one who is our everything. He puts everything into perspective. He is our God. He is perfect in every way. He is always good. Everything else may not be so good, but don’t be distracted by or attracted to it.
I go to my garage to find something and often get distracted by other things. Sometimes I am looking for something large and find some little thing that I was looking for at another time! Sometimes I get so distracted that I momentarily forget what I really want to find. I might get back into the house before I remember and go back for it.
When it comes to our walk with God, we know in part, but the Spirit who dwells in us knows Him completely. When our heart desires Him we always return to Him, no matter how distracted we might be by other things, because everything else is just everything else, but God is our source.
All of creation declares and reveals the glory of God. We don’t see that until we know Him. Without God, people let everything else dictate their understanding and the greatness of God is foolishness. Oh, what joy it is to know the truth. God is truth! When we know the truth, we are free from everything else.
Even when other things distract or attract us, ultimately, we return to the truth! The speed at which we do this is determined by our level of attraction to our source. Years ago, God impressed me with a thought that “depth of faith determines height of flight.” I labeled it, DOF DE HOF. My kids thought it should be a tee shirt, so they designed one and we made them.
Distractions can seem good at times. Look at Peter. One day he declares that Jesus is Christ, the son of the living God. Then since God revealed something to him once, he tries to tell Jesus that what Jesus said, cannot be. Jesus tells him where that thought came from. Right from satan himself. That would be humbling! It does not hurt us to be humbled. Just remember, God is everything. Everything is just everything else.
