EXPECT PEACE
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me by your generous Spirit. (Psalm 51:12 KJV)
Everything is not always going to be perfect. You are not always going to be perfect. Only God is always perfect! He is all things good! He never does wrong and He will never do you wrong. He will never leave you and he will never forsake you. He is Lord. He has risen from the dead and He will raise you up. He delivers, forgives, strengthens and restores. God is good!
We can, and we should, expect God to be everything to us and for us, because God is for us. David, in this psalm spends the first part acknowledging the mess he made of things, but he did not hesitate at all to ask for the good things of God.
David knew the peace of a clean heart and the joy of God’s salvation. He was tired of the misery he had created. Yes even if we are the problem behind our misery, we must know that God is waiting with our restoration and peace. He is not just waiting, He is calling. Holy Spirit in us is reminding us where our strength lies.
Even in our dreams God reminds us where our peace comes from. He says, “Pray!” Elevation worship has a song titled, “Talking to Jesus,” if you have not heard it I encourage you to do so. It reminds us of what a friend we have in Jesus.
When you talk to Jesus, you can expect peace. Peace in you. It has to begin in you. Peace cannot depend on what is around us. It must begin in us. Even in the storms of life, we must know that we can know the peace of God. When we know that, we can expect it and we will not be disappointed. When we expect it, we will show it. Peace will be revealed to us and through us. Jesus will be exposed in the world around us.
Yesterday, I tried a new thing. I put a new starter in my lawn mower. I was prepared to have someone who knows what they are doing bail me out if I messed it up, but I had peace with doing it. My wife says it is good for my brain to learn new things. Of course this is not a really complicated thing, but it is possible to mess it up. I actually did! I failed to look at it from all angles and soon found the importance of looking more carefully. I am glad God has been speaking about peace to me, because I used His instruction to maintain peace and I peacefully corrected my error.
I realize that there are a lot bigger problems that we face, but God is always the same. You see, it did not matter how the project turned out. What mattered was that I had peace no matter what. That was not my peace; it was His peace. Even in the midst of a troubling dream, my spirit found peace the same way I do when I am awake. This reinforced what God is teaching me. Always pray and peace comes. Expect the Prince of Peace. Peace is a person, not a feeling!
