EYES ON THE PRIZE

"Keep justice, and do righteousness, for My salvation is about to come and My righteousness to be revealed." (Isaiah 56:1 NKJV)

Recently a woman in our church gave a word from God telling us to keep our eyes on Jesus. He said that if we would not look to the right or to the left but keep our eyes on Him, He would see us through every thing in this life. Now some would say we could find that idea in the Bible, and they would be right. Personally, whenever God takes the time to make the point in a church service, I choose to take it even more seriously.

Let’s face it; there are lots of things going on in the world right now. It is up to us to decide how much of our attention we will give them. I am not saying we should necessarily ignore these things, but it seems to me that it is much more beneficial to focus on Jesus than it is to focus on all the problems, no matter what they are.

We are so fortunate that we have been blessed with the opportunity to understand the things of God. If we will keep our eyes on Jesus and put our trust in Him, He will lead us into the most productive and fullest life that we could ever imagine.

It is also good to know, that if we find ourselves in uncharted waters with the storms of life rising, we can count on Jesus to come to us in the storm and rescue us. This is what He did for the disciples when they went out ahead of Him. He watched them and when He saw that they were in trouble He went to them. Peter even got a chance to walk on the water for a few steps before Jesus brought him back to the boat. Then as soon as Jesus was in the boat miraculously they were at their destination.

Jesus is always about to come on the scene! Sometimes it is a struggle to wait. Sometimes when we are waiting we are tempted to think He is not coming at all! Sometimes we even begin to believe that we must be being punished and that we deserve to be deserted. Then we start trying to figure out what we did wrong. It may be that we have done things wrong, but we must remember that He is faithful when we are not. At these times we must remember where to look. We must look unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith.

We must remember that He is able to complete the good work that He has begun in us. As we begin to remember these things, more good things will flood our hearts and minds and suddenly we will begin to do the most important things. We will look for and behold the Glory of God. We will be back on the King’s Highway, following Jesus. Hope will return bringing with it righteousness, joy, and peace in the Holy Spirit. Doesn’t just the thought of all of this bring a smile to your face and sense of peace to your heart?
