EYES THAT SEE

And when all the people saw it, they fell down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord, He is God! Yes, the Lord is God!” (1 Kings 18:39)

Do you see it? If you do, hold on to it. Remember it. Talk about it. Write it down. There was a song from my youth with a line that said, “Once you have found him, never let him go.”

I often hear people say that they were close to God, but things happened. I always remind them that He is always near. God is faithful, even when we are not. He is in it for eternity. We need only to see Him.

The time that Elijah called down fire from the Lord and then destroyed all the prophets of Baal, was a real eye opener for the people that were there. None of us were there. It is hard to imagine what it would have been like to be there. But, if we were, what would we have done? What would you have done?

How do you respond to the presence of God? Do you jump in or hold back? Do you stir up the gift that is in you? Do you get excited at the thought of time with God? Have you jumped up and down and shouted because He is worthy? I know, a lot of questions, but they are things to think about.

It should not take fire from the sky to cause us to praise the Lord. Once I was on a roof putting on shingles when I hit my thumb. I immediately began to shout and praise God as loud as I could. At that moment, God simply asked why I had to hit my thumb to begin praising Him? I have always remembered that. God is always worthy of praise.

We sing asking God to open the eyes of our hearts so we can see Him. That is a great prayer and a great thing to sing. Still, even when we don’t see Him; He is worthy of praise. Faith believes that He is! So, we can rejoice anticipating His faithfulness. I wish that I could say that I always read the bible interactively. It is always better when I do! I was excited as I read about the people falling down and praising. I was yahooing right along with them. I was imagining running around and praising God like a child jumping in a pile of leaves.

Paul told Timothy to stay stirred up. What would it take to cause you to jump up, fall down, and run around? Something excites us all. We all have a let it go spot! It seems to me that we also have a tendency to practice self-control in the wrong places. We lose it when we should practice, and we use it when we should just let it go.

Sometimes we just need to get over ourselves and get on with God. We really can rejoice in Him when there appears to be nothing to rejoice about. Have you ever shouted your way out? Sometimes we shout because we are angry, but that does not change much. Scripture says to shout unto God with a voice of triumph. Try it. Shout. The Lord He is God! I will praise Him! Jesus is Lord!
