FAITH IN THE BLOOD

But people are declared righteous because of their faith, not because of their work. (Rom. 4:5)

It is faith that saves us and faith that keeps us. What is it that cleansed us from all unrighteousness? According to God’s word, it was and is the blood that Jesus shed. What was it that Jesus said gave us a new and better covenant? He said, “This is my blood.”

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to be blessed by God when in your estimation they are not doing everything right? Even though you see their faults, they just keep praising the Lord and He keeps taking care of them. Well, relax! Growth in their relationship with God will take care of their works. In the mean time, God sees their faith. And that faith is in what the blood of Jesus has done for all of us whether we understand it completely or not.

When I was first saved, some people wondered if it was for real. In fact I came to the point where I even wondered if it could really be that good. I wondered if it was something I was just making up in my mind and if it would wear off. At that time I really did not really understand about God speaking to people. But when I posed this question I knew that it was Him! He very clearly and kindly informed me that I was not that smart or that powerful! Wow did I feel good knowing it was not just some figment of my imagination.

You see I wanted it to be real. My life was pretty good, but more and more I was losing any sort of peace, and I was feeling like the old song, “I can’t get no satisfaction.” I was also driving my wife crazy! More than anything though, I knew that I had plenty of sins and I wanted them forgiven. I really did not understand then that the same blood that forgave me was also powerful to keep me. Fortunately, God does not base everything on our understanding. He works through our faith. Hence, God is faithful even when we are not able to understand all that He has promised us.

When David wrote about the joy of those whose disobedience is forgiven, He was talking about me. He could only long for a day when all sins would be forever covered. They had to offer sacrifices over and over. Every time they did, it was cause for celebration. They celebrated over every sacrifice in excitement of being guilt free for a little while. Once a year it was a big celebration as the priest went into the Holiest place and then the sins were sent out with the goat into the wilderness. They held special celebrations in remembrance of the things God had done for them. I think we could learn something from them. Every time we gather, it should be celebration of thanksgiving for what He has done and what we know He is still doing.

If we have faith in that blood to cleanse us, why shouldn’t we have faith in that blood to do all that Jesus said? I had an image recently of when we are saved. The Bible refers to it as being crucified with Christ. It was like when Jesus was pierced and his blood flowed out. The same thing happens to us, only when we are pierced, our old sinful blood all pours out on the ground and we are instantly transfused with His precious blood. Talk about being new creatures in Christ. The old things are gone and all things become new. Now we need only to walk in the newness of the Spirit.

What new things are yours that you have not been trusting God for? What is it that God cannot do? We all know that nothing is impossible for Him. The question is do we have the faith in the blood of Jesus to believe it.
