FAR GREATER GLORY
Shouldn't we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? (2 Corinthians 3:8 NLT)
Have you ever been disappointed? We have all misplaced our hope and our expectations on things that end up disappointing us. I think this is the very reason that we so often hesitate and at times refuse to trust God.
It is one thing to give prayer a try and quite another thing to actually wait on the Lord. God encourages us to pray in faith, believing! Or we could say we should believe God expecting far greater things than we can even think to pray for.
The truth is, God has never disappointed anyone. He is not capable of disappointing. He does not fail and he does not change. He keeps His promises.
Of course, that does not mean that all things always go perfectly! However, those who put their trust in the Lord and His glory can expect great outcomes from God. The key is in Him, because He makes all things wonderful in His time. He has ways that we do not see, but we do not have to see in order to expect far greater glory. Remember, we never give up!
When the story of your life takes a wrong turn, then turn the page and expect God to change things. Bob Seger wrote a song about turn the page. It is not a gospel song, but it is a good idea. Turn the page. Expect greater glory on the next page.
In fact, it occurs to me that we often tend to dwell more on what we see as disappointments than we do on the expectation of greater glory. We should read those pages of disappointments the same way most of us read the genealogies and pomegranate instructions of the Old Testament. We turn the page looking for the good stuff don’t we? Of course even there, we find little nuggets like the two verse testimony Jabez who prayed and God granted him what he asked.
Learning to expect far greater glory may take some effort, but it is effort well spent! If you think about it, expecting greater things is expecting what we really want. It is fear that keeps us from going ahead and doing it. If a basket ball player quits shooting, or a quarterback quits passing, or a runner stops running just because it did not work out once, then a shooter would never score, a quarterback would never complete a pass and a runner would never complete a race. God promises us that if we will keep pressing and expecting His greater glory, we will not be disappointed. How many experiments fail before there is success? Thing of the light bulb.
We can be sure that if we are disappointed then it is not God’s outcome and that His is still coming. Keep expecting greater glory and turning the page till you get to the good part.
