FATHER IN HEAVEN
Oh send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me... (Psalm 43:3 NKJ)
Father in heaven, I need you so. Stand by me each day, hear me when I pray; oh I need you. Take me and make me, what you will. My whole life is yours; me with your spirit fill. These lines from a song I sang to the Lord some 27 years ago, and they are truer today than they were then because I understand them better now than I did then. I don’t want to be God; I just want to be His boy! I don’t want to exalt myself above Him, I want to do what He shows me and say what He tells me! Help me Lord!
Today as I was praying about something, the Lord began to interact with some of those questions that always bring me to a halt. I asked something and He asked me specifics as to how and what I wanted. Well, in this particular instance I knew but I did not know! This was when I said to the Lord, “I don’t want to be God!”
If that is a lack of faith, then I have a lack of faith. The truth is I don’t mind leaving the things that belong to God, up to God! I know I have the mind of Christ, so I can know some things. I also know that Jesus said He always pleased the Father because He did what His Father showed Him and said what His Father told Him. Does this make sense to anyone?
I want to be a responsible child and do my part, but I just can’t do God’s part. We all want our children to grow up and be responsible. We do our best to guide them along the way. At the same time none of us want to see our children move outside of the realm that is theirs. To be honest, sometimes the responsibility of being a parent is more than I want, and I have been at it a long time! I need God to intervene often because I cannot control everything!
So what am I saying here? I am saying that we must make sure that we are yielded to the light and the truth that God pours out. We need to be careful that we do not run ahead or allow ourselves to be pushed into realms that are not ours. We should always be willing to yield to the Lord and His wisdom and His Word.
We need to able to recognize when we have stepped into a place that we are not ready or qualified for. For instance, this has been quite a winter in our area and there have been lots of weather warnings. There have been lots of people who did not heed the warnings and ended up in trouble. We attempted to go one day but it did not take long to decide that it was a bad choice and to turn around and go home. There is no shame in going home nor is there shame in falling before the Lord and repenting for trying to play God.
It is God who commanded the blessing. There is only One God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and He knows what He is doing. He will send His light and His truth to guide us! We need to remain free so that He can guide us. If we are not careful, we can actually get into “faith bondage.” That is when we are so full of faith that we begin to think we know more than God and that we can convince Him to choose our way over His! Many have fallen away when it did not go their way. Just remember that His plan is to be our Father and for us to be His kids.
