FAVOR

And I will give this people favor and respect in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be that when you go, you shall not go empty-handed. (Exodus 3:21 TAB)

I like the relationship that Moses had with God. He asked God questions and God answered Him. He explained His concerns and God took care of them. Moses was comfortable in His relationship with God and God was comfortable with that. Just as God kept His promises to Abraham he continued with Moses. The really great news is that God has not changed.

God called Moses to answer the prayers of Israel. God was aware of their plight and now He had a man to lead them in their flight. He laid out the whole plan for Moses and for just little icing on the cake He assured Moses that they would not leave empty handed.

Now can you imagine what the people said when Moses first told them about this part of the plan? After all, these were the people who owned them. These were the people who treated them terribly. And now Moses was telling them that these same people were going to give them going away presents. All the way through the extra work and the plagues Moses kept encouraging them with God’s promise of favor. And sure enough, before they left they loaded up with the treasures of Egypt.

Often times I hear people who feel like leaving their old life is just more than they are willing to do in order to follow Jesus. This is mostly due to the fact that they may not know what God has in store for them. Not that many people have much awareness of the Kingdom of God. Somehow or another the now in this life that Jesus promised has been skipped and most people only know that they need to secure a home in heaven. Most also hope that there will be several years before that comes and they have no idea what a joy living in God’s Kingdom on earth should be.

Remember that the life Jesus lived was intended to be a light for us. It was a preview for rest of His children. Jesus said that in the end eternal life was waiting but between now and then He came to give us life and that more abundantly. I know that kind of talk sometimes bothers people, but it is the truth. Remember, Moses was talking to slaves telling them they were about to be rich. God came up with that plan, not Moses.

If we will trust God, He will give us what we need to leave the old behind and move on to the new. Yes, there may be some bumps along the road, but as we keep our focus on Him and trust in His grace (special favor and blessing) we will not be disappointed. He will help us get out and then lead us in. God blessed Israel as they were going out and later blessed them as they went into the land flowing with milk and honey. He removed the enemy. They lived in houses they did not build and harvested crops they did not plant. It really is a lot easier to leave something behind when you understand that there is something better waiting for you. God is not a taker. He is a giver.
