FIGHT HARD
I want to encourage you to fight hard for the faith that God gave His holy people.(Jude 3b)
How much time to you spend fighting for your faith? Yes, faith is something to hang on to, but just hanging on accomplishes very little. To hang on to something creates a picture of it being just a matter of time until it is gone or we are gone. Hanging on produces statements like, “I will try, I am trying, or it is so hard.” That list could go a lot further by adding, “You just don’t understand, or it is easy for you.”
The thing is friends; God gave us this faith and we should fight for it. Joining with it and not fighting against it. What we see in God’s word is ours. If God said it then we should fight hard against the enemy who is intent on stealing it from us. It is a battle, Paul said it was a wrestling match; but we win!
Jude said that he wanted to tell them about the salvation that we share, but felt like he better tell them to fight for it. It is not enough to have a passing knowledge that salvation exists. The Bible tells us to come into the fullness of our salvation. That means we must seek it out and fight for it when we find it.
Everything that has been promised by God is ours. We should expect it if we fight for it. We should also expect there to be a fight. Everything of value is going to be contended for. God said that He set the way of life and death before us and that we should choose life. Jesus said He came that we might have life. In other words, every good and perfect thing has been spread on the table before us and we need everything that is on the table.
We fight for things that mean something to us. Does the Word of God mean something to you? Then fight to get in inside you. Is time with God important to you? Then fight to spend time with Him. Do not be easily distracted.
Jude went on to tell them to remember some things they already knew. They knew that God led the people out of Egypt, but then ended up having to destroy those that quit or refused to believe. He warned them about rejecting God’s authority and being critical of things they did not understand.
We talked about never experiencing the favor grace of God if we refused to walk in the power grace of God. It is up to us to fight hard for the faith that is ours. There is so much I do not yet know and have not yet experienced. It is mine I just need to fight for it. I know I can have it because as Jude pointed out; “God is strong, and can keep you can falling. He can bring you before His glory without any wrong and give you great joy.” That is worth fighting for.
