FIGHT THROUGH

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.(1 Timothy 6:12 NKJ)

There is no doubt that in order to walk by faith we need to be prepared to fight. This was illustrated to me as I prayed one day. It was as though the Lord was inviting me up into the cloud. My first thought of course was of how Moses had gone up into the cloud, so I was looking forward to a real touch of the glory of His presence. As I started up toward the cloud it got rather ugly as forces of darkness began to create illusions that would scare me off. Each time, I would hear the Lord say fight through, and as I determined to fight through they would disappear.

The Lord then began to reveal to me that this was how our walk of faith was. The more determined we are to get into His presence, the more the enemy will try to place things in our way to stop us. I knew that this was true, but this visual effect made it much clearer to me.

Every one of us who has chosen to walk with God has run into resistance. Often times, as new believers we feel like we run into more problems than we had before. This is just what the enemy wants us to think. Then he tries to convince us that following Jesus is more trouble than it is worth. If this is where you are now, don’t believe it for a moment. Fight through.

It is not just new believers that run into this. Often times we hear of people who have walked with the Lord for a long time, and then suddenly they seem to fall apart. They have been through many battles and have seen God deliver them time after time, but somehow the enemy manages to throw something at them knocks them off balance. If this is you, and you are teetering, fight through.

Look at Moses. He had been through a lot and seen the Lord do the impossible so many times that you would think he could never be fooled. But then one day he got sick of the people complaining and instead of speaking to the rock, like God said, in order to get water, he hit again. Was it because he had done it that way before and forgot what he was doing? Or was it simply because he was sick of the whole works and lost his head. We can be sure that he did receive his ultimate reward in heaven, but he did miss his trip into the promised land. What do we miss when we don’t fight through? Only God knows for sure.

Throughout the Bible we see example after example of those who did fight through and of those who did not. David needed to fight the temptation as he looked at Bathsheba, but he did not. Jesus had to fight temptation in the wilderness and again in the garden, just to name two very big examples. And of course, Jesus did fight through and great was His reward and ours too because He fought through. Others will benefit if we will fight through as well.

The important thing for us all to remember is not to be fooled by things that are placed in our way. Always seek God. If a door shuts, it is possible that He shut it, and it is also possible that it is simply something the enemy has put in to discourage you. God has good plans for you, so fight through and lay hold of what God has for you.
