FINDING GRACE

"I know you by name and you have found grace in my sight."(Exodus 33:12 NKJ)

Grace is not just a word. Grace is something tangible, obtainable, and therefore it is something we can possess. More than that, it is something we must possess! Just as grace (unmerited favor) is available for salvation to all, so is grace (special favor and blessing) available for all. We know the source of this grace is the same as the grace that saves us, but how do we appropriate it?

God told Moses that he had found grace in His sight. So how did he find it? Have you ever considered the miraculous way that God answered the prayers of Israel? Scripture tells us that they cried out to God because of their plight as slaves of Egypt. Who would have ever imagined that their deliverer was in fact part of the family in Egypt? He was a favorite of Pharaoh. Something else to think about is the fact that Moses was the answer to their prayers and they often wanted him to leave them alone!

When God arranged for Moses to find out who his mother was, there was nothing forcing Moses to set aside his position and take up a cause. What in the world was Moses thinking anyway? Most would say he was not thinking at all. To the natural mind Moses was a fool to give up all that he had for nothing. He put his very life on the line. He lost everything. No, he did not lose it. He gave it away!

God was right there for him. He was not killed he was sent out into the desert to die, but God sustained him. Then one day, God called him to deliver his people. He did not have to do that either, but he did what God asked. The rest of the story of the miracles, plagues, and deliverance can be found in the book of exodus.

So what did Moses do to find grace in God’s sight? He chose God! In this same way, we all have the opportunity to move from grace to grace, and go from glory to glory. We simply must choose God.

God never calls us to anything without providing the grace to sustain us. At times it may look like a crazy choice. It may seem as though the cost will be too great. It may be that it changes our lives so much that we can no longer stay where we are. The fact is that following God always moves us. We may not move one inch physically, but it will seem as though we find ourselves far away spiritually. The key is to keep trusting God to finish what He has begun.

Finding grace will often require that we leave some things behind, and it will always require us to reach for what is ahead. It also requires that we understand that we cannot do anything without God. Moses told God that if He did not go with them, they were not moving. It is time to move ahead in our walk with God. We can be confident that there is more than enough grace to carry us.
