FINISHING
For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:26 NKJV)
What an amazing thing God has done! He has made us all sons and daughters through faith in Christ Jesus. We were on the bottom but through Christ He moved us to the top. To be honest, I probably have not dwelt enough this fact. It really is a bit of a high concept to get around! However, when it comes to the position God has given us we should stand tall in it and accept all the privilege and responsibility that comes with it.
The Bible tells us that God is able to complete this good work that He has begun in us. He has all the tools and the power and is ready to supply us all that it will take to finish this race; we simply need to pick them up. The key for us is having the determination to put forth the effort to finish. Remember, in this race everyone gets the prize!
I have been running ever since I can remember. When I was really young we just ran and played. I was always involved in sports and so running became a part of conditioning. To be honest I did not like to run long distances but I did what was necessary to accomplish my goals for other sports. When I was done with school sports, I continued to run a little just to stay in shape. Eventually it got to be a habit, and I found that enjoyed running most of the time.
There were of course times when it hurt, and it was not fun. I seldom ran a race against anyone but myself, but my goal was always to finish. If I planned to run a certain distance, I wanted to finish that distance.
I am always amazed when I watch marathon runners. They run more that 26 miles and most times they run the last mile faster than the first. There are also those in the race whose goal is simply to finish and by finishing they gain their victory. There are many more people in each of the races who are there to finish than there are there who really plan to win. No doubt the person who comes in last is much happier than the person who planned to win and came in second! No matter what, the key is to keep running and do whatever is necessary to finish.
There are times when people just cannot finish. Other times you will see people crawling in order to finish. There is always someone there to cheer them on. We also have people to cheer us on to victory in our race of faith. We may not always go fast. We may even go backwards at times. We may fall down. Sometimes people drop out, but even then there is a spot reserved for them to get back in the race and win. It is just plain foolish not to finish.
This was Paul’s word to the Galatians. He told them to finish the way they started and he tells us the same thing. The Holy Spirit draws us to Christ and we become sons of God. We need to look in the mirror and remind ourselves who we are and finish it!
