FIXER UPPERS
But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.
What a blessing it is to start another year in Christ. I pray that you’re keeping your confidence and hope in Christ. We are, after all, His workmanship. He is the potter, and we are the clay. We present ourselves to Him and He does great work!
I was speaking to a man recently that fixes and flips houses. He said it is most important that you buy them at the right price. In other words, you need to get them cheap in order to be able to put money in them!
I understood that before we spoke, but after that conversation as I was reading the Bible, I had this thought about us. We are all fixer uppers. We were all lost and in need of restoration. The big difference is that God paid a great price for us, and he spares no expense in our rebuild.
Romans twelve begins telling us to present ourselves as living sacrifices unto God. It is important that we let Him go to work. Our part is to commit to the process. We all need work, and the work never ends.
I, for the most part, am a fix it when it breaks sort of person. Some things of course require regular maintenance, like oil in the car, air in the tires, mowing the yard, etc., some of course, can be put off without any real problems. But, when it comes to our home, it is my bride who plans for the changes. Without her, carpet would last forever, walls would never need paint, and the list would go on and on.
It seems to me that we need to be careful that we do not treat our spiritual house that way. Spiritual houses need constant care. We need to be continually built up on our faith in Christ.
We all know how easy it is to go with the flow. The problem is that the flow we need to go with is the flow of the Holy Spirit. We can’t sit down at a place and think this is as far as I will go. Our heart must take on the determination to go all the way.
I do not look at our carpet that much, but when the vacuum is setting out, I know someone thinks it is time to vacuum. We can all use a reminder in our walk with God. We may not see any problems, but others may. And we know God most certainly does. So, we need to be sensitive to His voice. Have you ever noticed how quickly a house deteriorates when it is abandoned. If we abandon our faith, we deteriorate even more quickly.
We never stop being fixer uppers. God is always working. He is always building. We are very valuable to Him. He increases our value continually as He blesses and makes us blessings. He puts in the right place and gives us the right tools and we help build the kingdom. We are His workmanship created in Christ for the good works He has planned for us. So, we must never let up. We must press on. FIX ME UP LORD!
