FORGET ALL THAT
But forget all that--it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. (Isaiah 43:18 NLT)
If you go back and read about the things God says to forget about you will say “Wow” right along with me. In the preceding verses of the chapter God tells them not to fear because He is the one who ransomed them and He is with them. He tells them that they were chosen to know Him and understand that He alone is God.
He tells them how He will protect them and reminds them of some of the most amazing things that He did for them. The last one He mentions is none other than the opening of the sea and the way the passed through on dry ground. After all of that, God tells them to forget those things because they are nothing compared to what He is going to do.
Many times I have heard and been excited about God saying behold I will do a new thing. In other translations, it is preceding by “remember not the former things.” That just did not get the point across to me like this translation that tells me to forget all that!
You see, God is telling you and me the exact same thing. All of the great things God has done in the past are nothing compared to what He can and will do in the future. But you say, “God never opened the sea for me. He never did anything great like that.” Sure He did. You crossed from life to death when you came to know Him. Besides, all scripture was given to us as an example to reveal to us the greatness of God.
Still, God says forget all of that. The apostle Paul said to forget what was behind and reach for what is ahead of you. Whether it is good or bad that is behind you, you made it through the bad because the Lord was on your side and the good things are nothing compared to what He wants to do. He does not say things that He does not mean. He also assures us that nothing can appose Him or reverse His actions.
It is time that we sold out to the fact that God has great plans for each of our lives. The only way we will enter into them is to forget everything else and hold fast to His word. We need to dare to hope and imagine. Then we will go to God saying you can help if you want to, and we will hear Him say I want to.
I agree it is hard to imagine God doing something greater than opening the sea for you, but He says He is going to. Who are we to argue with Him? He says He will save nations in a day. If He going to save nations in a day, then we can have confidence in Him to save our relatives, and friends, as well as our enemies and make them our friends.
Let’s face it; we are all guilty of being more willing to believe that God is not going to do anything than we are of believing He probably has already if we will just trust Him. Well forget that unbelief as well. We can turn from darkness to light and change our thinking and our actions. Let’s experience those new things God promises.
