FORTUNATE

You have been chosen to know the secret truths about God's kingdom. (Luke 8:10 ERV)

How would you complete the phrase; God is always? Our response will reveal a great deal about our understanding of God and our relationship with Him. The truth is if we know Him at all we are very fortunate. This is not because He is illusive or only reveals Himself to certain people; He said He would answer whoever would call.

Simply put, if we do not feel fortunate to have a relationship with God, we will not continue to be grateful. If we are not grateful, we will simply lose our vision and without vision, people perish.

So, how fortunate do we feel when we think of the Lord? In a recent time with the Lord, I was once again telling Him just how fortunate I felt as I considered His rescue of my life. There is a just long list of reasons that He should have never bothered with me, but He did!

As I went through a partial list of why I felt so fortunate for His erasing my past I was also overwhelmed with how fortunate I am to be still so in love after thirty years. It was somewhere in the midst of all of this that the Lord interrupted me saying, “Two things.” My response was of course, “What?”

He explained to me that there were two very simple things that have kept me going. The first was my continued awareness of just how fortunate I am. It is not a “whew I am lucky” type thing it is just an awareness of being so fortunate. Not everyone realizes or considers just how fortunate they are to know God. Those who are forgiven much love much. The truth is that everyone has been forgiven much, but not everyone is all that aware of it.

The woman who washed Jesus feet with her tears, knew about feeling fortunate. The woman who was caught in adultery, know about feeling fortunate. Paul knew about feeling fortunate. Have you considered lately how fortunate you are?

I am not asking you this from a lofty attitude; I am offering this as an opportunity to open up truths about the Kingdom of God. I had never considered this as something to focus on until God pointed it out. Once He did, it became obvious that an awareness of how fortunate we are naturally produces a sense of gratitude; and God loves our lips giving thanks.

Some people do not understand why a person is always praising and thanking God. Some folks in a church will even become uncomfortable with people praising and talking about God in public. It is just unfortunate that they do not feel fortunate enough and consequently do not understand. This could become a short book, but for now, how fortunate do you feel? Think about it.
