FREEDOM COMES WITH KNOWING
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT)
In order to go the right way, we must know the way to go. Last night we finished a watering project for some folks, and we were supposed to take their buckets to their house. One thing we failed to realize was that neither I nor my bride knew for sure where they lived. Even in a small town people move on occasion and each of us thought the other must know. So even though it could not be far, we still had no idea. Finally the Lord gave me some wisdom and I found the place and the problem was solved. It was a lot easier when I knew where to go!
The gospel is really just that simple. Jesus said that when we know the truth, the truth will make us free. We are told in Romans that hearing and hearing the Word of God opens the doors to the kingdom. (My paraphrase) So knowing that we can know is a giant step toward knowing. Still, we are responsible for wanting to know. A teacher knows that some students want to know and others do not care to know. When I first came to know Jesus, I wanted to know more, so much, that had I not been blessed with such patient teachers, they would have quit answering the phone. My hope was that it would just keep getting better and I have never been disappointed.
As we discussed crossing lines and the things that keep us back we noted that we had to cross those lines. Well, all of those lines are the strep to truth. The most fundamental of truths is that we have begun a new life in Christ. The freedom in releasing the old life is amazing. It is gone. Leave it there. When it comes up, send it back. Take care of the things that you are responsible for and leave the things God is responsible for to Him. Last night when we could not find where to make our delivery, guess what my bride did? She left it to me. She got in the Portable spa and sat down! What a gal! Well, we would be wise to leave things behind and enter the Lord’s spa. His name for it is rest.
Once we do that, the next truth is that a new life has begun. It is all there and complete in God’s eyes. All the promises, resources, directions, peace, love, joy, and etc. are given to us in a giant box of life. It is all ours to explore and even though we will never get through all of it in this life time, it is a journey that is ours for the taking. We do not have to get there; we are there!
What we don’t know, we can know. Often we have to find out before we realize that we did not know. Sometimes we understand later what we found out before and did not realize we already found out. Once I found a rubber plug on my drive way and because I always keep things just in case, I did not throw it away. Sometime later when I was washing my motorcycle I notice a hole that I had not noticed before. You guessed it; the plug went in that spot. In the same way, we often find the nugget of truth before we need it, but we won’t if we don’t seek God expecting great things. Every day is new day to walk in truth.
