FROM HEAVEN OR MEN

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? Answer me. (Mark 11:30 KJV)

It certainly is true that some things just never change? The question of heavenly wisdom verses the wisdom of man just continues on and on. The serpent enticed Eve in the garden by appealing to her own thinking verses what God had said and the outcome was death. To this day when we choose the wisdom of man over that which comes from heaven the result is the same. It always kills someone or something.

The biggest social issues of today fly in the face of what God has ordained from heaven. The thought that a man or a woman should choose to kill an innocent child for convenience sake is a good example. People who want to continue this practice do not want to hear what God has to say. Nor do they want to acknowledge that man has discovered that what God said all along is true! They want to call the Bible an old book and run quickly when someone suggest it is in fact the word of God. What would be wrong with just admitting that we have sinned? God forgives and allows us to move on.

We could speak to many obvious issues but I think it is more import to focus on the truth that will overcome all other things if we will seriously consider it. The truth is that the things that come from heaven provide the answers to everything that the whole world is concerned about. We do for a fact live in scary times if we do not know the truth. Jesus said that perfect love has cast out all fear and so we should not fear. We should apply the solutions that have already been prepared for us by God.

When the chief priests approached Jesus they knew He had authority that they would never have, and they really did know where it came from. When He answered their question with a question they chose not to answer even though they knew the truth. They did this because they were convicted but not convicted enough to yield to it.

We live in a world that is convicted. Even when they know what they do is wrong, they try something else to make them feel right. Rather than looking at wisdom from heaven, they run from it. I know this is true. I did it for years and you probably did too! If we are totally honest, we have to acknowledge that we are still guilty of choosing wisdom from man way more than we should.

Choosing the wisdom that comes from heaven above all things takes determination on our part. This follows right along with checking our desires and choosing our part. “But how do we know what is heavenly and what is from man” people ask? God told us in His word that His Spirit would bear witness with the truth. It is when the Holy Spirit points out the truth that peace or conviction takes place. It is choosing to yield to the conviction rather than to the temptation that sets us free.

Conviction is always uncomfortable but not nearly so uncomfortable and yielding to temptation and holding on to things that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God.
