FROM THE PAGE TO YOUR HEART
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling; for you have been called by God. (Ephesians 4:1 NLT)
What did the people who heard these letters do with the words? They did not have a photo copier to run off copies when letters came from Paul! Have you ever thought what a miracle of God it is that these letters were kept until they could get to people who could print them for all to see? It is no wonder that people in some countries weep when they actually have a bible of their own. These are people who could only store the Word of God in their hearts. If they wanted to change the words had to be taken directly into their hearts.
Think about it. No one had a recorder, or personal digital assistant. Few if any of the people came with a note pad to write it down. The truth is they were just like us. They heard it and depending on how interested they were in it, their lives changed accordingly. This is one reason why we often see the writers reminding them and urging them and commanding them to do something with what they were hearing.
We all know that when they wrote these letters they were not thinking that they were writing the Bible. They were simply telling everyone what the Spirit of Lord compelled them to share. The same Spirit of the Lord compels us to share as well! If we have read the Bible, we all have favorite things that the Lord has spoken to us. We all have favorite teachers that we listen to and read books that they have written. This is good. We need to get the life that is in Christ Jesus deep down into ourselves so that we in turn give life.
Paul was in prison begging the people live a life worthy of the calling of God. He wanted them to remember that God was the one who called them. He was certain enough that it was God who called him to keep pressing even from prison.
Hey, it is fine and easy to declare our faith when everything is going well. Paul knew what it was to have people healed everywhere he went. He knew what it was like to see demons run and hide. He knew what it was like to have a lot, and yes, he knew what it was like to be locked up. In every circumstance there was one thing that kept him level and strong; he knew he was called by God and that God would take care of him. He also knew that God would take care of him according to his faith and trust in God to do so. For this reason he just kept hammering away at the folks to stand on the Rock of Jesus Christ.
What would Paul write to us today? If he could FedEx a letter to our churches, what would it say? How many more copies of the Bible do we need? How many more books must we read, or teachings must we hear or watch before we allow the word into our hearts so that the Spirit perform His perfect in work in us. The life is there, but we must pick it up and put it on. The transfer from the page to the heart is ours if we want it. It is a free app. Click on it!
