GATHER AROUND
However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up... (Acts 14:20 NKJ)
There are lots of good reasons for people to gather together. Personally I really cannot think of anything that I enjoy more than gathering with other believers to be built up together in our faith. Whether it is with two, or two thousand it is always beneficial. I feel so sorry for people who have been deceived into thinking that they do not need anyone else in their walk with God, and even sorrier for those who think they do not need God. This particular portion of scripture reinforces the truth of the power of gathering together and remembering that it is not over till God says it is over.
The people had stoned Paul and left him for dead. Immediately the disciples gathered around him. It is a good thing they gathered in faith, rather than to stand around and feel sorry for themselves and drag Paul off and bury him! No matter what the circumstances, we should be quick to gather to pray and hear what the Lord has to say about a situation. This was serious and it looked hopeless, but somehow they managed to do the right thing.
We know that every word of the Bible was put there for our benefit right! Well then we should allow this scripture to be a reminder to not worry about anything and pray about everything. God is still able to raise the dead. The same power that raised Christ from the dead worked to raise Paul from the dead. That same power of the Holy Spirit can change any circumstance if we will only believe. We need to be quick to gather with others in agreement and we will see amazing things.
This was a miracle! Not only did Paul get up, but He went right back into town. Can’t you just see the look on the people’s faces? Here they all were listening to the folks who stoned Paul tell them how they would not have to put up with him anymore, when Paul comes walking on the scene! Somehow, I think he had a pretty captive audience for the message he was preaching. Can’t you just hear Paul telling that this is the very power of God that he had been telling them about.
Remember, when things look really bad, it gives God a great opportunity to turn things around and bring glory to Himself. As we celebrate Resurrection Day we have an even greater reminder of Gods power and love for those who believe. Everyone thought it was over when Jesus died on the cross, but it was really just beginning. Jesus told them to gather together in the upper room so they could receive power. That power was in operation when Paul was raised from the dead.
Are you walking in the power of the Holy Spirit? Have you followed Jesus command to receive the Holy Spirit? If so, are you gathering with others, praying the spirit, and building yourself up to release that power? Gather around in Jesus Name and see what wonders God will perform!
