GIVE HIM GLORY

May He be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever...Amen. (Eph. 3:21)

Obviously the church is not just where we gather to fellowship, but it is important that He be given glory when we do. If we won’t give Him glory when we are together there is a pretty good possibility that we don’t give Him much glory anywhere else either. Some people are so against any established meeting place that I wonder if they can muster a good attitude anywhere else.

I once had a friend who had nothing good to say about churches. He was sure the only thing God wanted was people who met in homes. Then one day he came and told me that their home meeting had gotten so big they were going to have to have a meeting place. Yes it seems they were going to have the forbidden thing called a church!

Truly I can understand the frustration with meeting where God is not given glory, but that does not make every place bad! People who understand the greatness of God need to help others so that together we can all give Him the glory that He deserves. So what gives Him glory?

Does it give Him glory if we feel like we are inconvenienced by taking time to worship? Does it give Him glory if we show up hoping we get out early? Does it give Him glory if we think it won’t be any good if it goes less than four hours? Oh yes, we can have a wrong attitude in either direction and that does not bring God glory. Faith brings God glory. Confidence in His unlimited resources gives God glory. Hope and love give God glory. It really is not all that difficult to please God. Simply leaving judgment to God is one way to give God much glory.

Judgment turns our focus to others rather than to God. We cannot look at God and judge anything or anyone else. Scripture tells us to make sure that our conversation builds things up. In other words if we can’t say something good, we should give it to God and move on.

There is no way to address all that does and does not give God glory in one short devotion so I will not even try. I will simply challenge us all to be more attentive to our call to give God glory. Let’s ask God to show us when we are failing to give Him glory in our words, our attitudes, and our actions. Let’s all determine in our hearts today that we are going to make a conscious effort to change those things that fall short of the glory of God. If we do not do this, we rob ourselves and others of the unlimited resources that God has for all of us. Worst of all, He does not get the glory He deserves.

Remember, His resources are not only in the Spirit. They are physical, emotional, and anything else we need. He wants us to draw on these continually. If we give Him glory, we will!
