GIVE UP YOUR LIFE

If you try to hang on to your own life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. (Mark 8:35 NLT)

What am I living for? Not why am I alive, but what am I living for? Am I living just for me? What is most important to me? For what purpose does God teach us about the Kingdom of God? Why does He teach us about the treasure and how to extract that treasure? Is it just for me or for a greater purpose also?
I am certain it is for me, and for greater purposes. So then, are the greater purposes at the top of my list, or am I at the top. Scripture tells me, that if I want to stay at the top the best way to do it is to keep the greater purposes on top.
So, am I living for me, or am I living for Him. As I get older, I am frequently tempted to consider retirement. Not retirement as in retiring, but as in am I prepared for it if I have no choice! You know how they advertise what you need to do and what you need to have in order to retire in style. There is nothing at all wrong with taking care of that. God calls us to wise stewardship. Wise stewardship would not be to cut back on my giving in order to feel secure.
Well, I have learned to overcome those concerns quickly by considering the Good News. What concerns me is that it ever concerns me in the first place!
Still, my first question is one that needs my most careful consideration. What am I living for? Am I living with the Good News as my highest priority? This is a good thing for everyone in every walk of life to consider. Do I do what I do heartily as unto the Lord?
Is this Good News that saves me receiving the proper consideration in all of the things I consider in my life? Am I working, playing, giving, sharing, and caring with my focus on Him.
It is not a difficult question to answer. We do not have to spend years to figure it out. We simply need to be sincere in our seeking and honest in our self analysis. We can trust God to guide us accordingly. We can be sure that He blessed by us even considering it. It opens a door.
There are things that we try to hold on to that we know are not worth holding on to. There are situations almost daily that give us opportunities to choose. They are not difficult or burdensome unless we make them that way. It is not in deep thinking that we solve these questions, it is in deep trusting.
I put my trust in you Lord. I do not want to keep anything that keeps me from you. I trust you Lord to direct and correct me in the way I should go. Whatever I do, may I live for you.
