GIVING AND TAKING
Yes, God loved the world so much that He gave His only son, so that everyone who believes in Him would not be lost but have eternal life. (John 3:16 ERV)
God gave His son and took our sins; now there is the deal of eternity. God is the giver of all life and everything pertaining to life. In return for our believing that, He takes our sins, our sorrows, our pain, our everything you can name that has ever been taking from you. He says give them to me and in return you will receive far more than you can imagine.
This morning I was reminded of the fact that the word of Lord came to Malachi telling of the coming of the savior and then for four hundred years there was no word from God. Can you imagine four hundred years without hearing from God? Of course if you don’t believe He speaks that may not have such an impact on you, but it should. Four hundred years of going through the rituals and declaring the most recent promise that was any of a number of years ago. It is like people hearing the Jesus is coming back and He told us that two thousand years ago! Fortunately, He did not leave and quit speaking.
When I considered how lonely it would be if I did not hear from God, I had that, “now you can imagine how I feel” feeling. God wants to hear from us. He wants to give to us. He wants to take from us the things that trouble us. This has always been His passion for His creation. This is His passion for you and for me.
He wants us to give our lives to His care every single day. He does not want one day to go by without a conversation with us. He does not want us to carry one burden on our own. Oh I know that there is that thinking that somehow God wants us to struggle in order for us to grow, but I sincerely think the biggest struggle of all is simply humbling ourselves and taking His help. I do not want struggles, but even more, I do not want one struggle to come and go without making me stronger in the Lord. Struggles come, but not from God. If we really believe they come from God, we are pretty slow to take them back to Him. Tell me, if we don’t take them to Him, what do we do with them? Do we struggle through and claim the victory for ourselves? Is our testimony that God tried to break me this time, but I won? If that is the case, then our great faith is greater than our great God.
So what is the conclusion of all this? For me, it is to believe God. I must hear God. I must place myself in touch with Him. I must give Him what He desires and I must receive what He desires to give me. I must not blame Him or make Him out to be like the other false gods who take and demand and destroy people. He is not a man nor is He man made. He is the creator of all things and the lover of His creation. We are His finest creation and all the other things were made for us. All He asks is that we love and trust Him. Don’t you want to hear from God? Tell Him you love and trust and believe Him. Do this often. He is here and He is coming again.
