GIVING GRACE
So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well. (2Corinthians 8:6 NKJ)
Jesus said that it is a greater blessing to give than it is to receive. The word of God also tells us that we will reap as we sow. As we give it will given unto us. The same way we measure our giving, we can plan on it being measured back to us. There are many more references that we could make, but for now we will move on in hopes that we will receive from God understanding of the grace to give.
It is not necessary for us to totally understand how God does what He does, it is most important that we simply believe what He says. Blessed are they that put their trust in the Lord. Everything with God boils down to trust. First, we have to trust that He can and will save us. With that, we move into a whole new life. It is a life that does not always make sense to the natural mind, but if we will trust what God says, we will see that He is able to do way more than we can understand.
I remember when I was first exposed to the scripture telling me that if I did not hate my father and mother I was not worthy of the kingdom of God. That made no sense to me even after it was explained that it meant I would need to love God more than them and choose God over them. After all, they were my parents who I knew well and from whom I had received much. However, it did not take long for me actually fall so in love with God that I knew I would in fact choose Him over my parents or anyone else for that matter. As long as we will continue in the truth we will find the freedom it brings.
So then, do we really believe it is more of a blessing to give than it is to receive? Don’t we all like to receive? It is okay to admit it. I admit it. I like to receive! It is not always all that comfortable, but the fact is we do like it. If we are going to really take part in receiving the way God wants us to receive, then we are going to have to trust in the fact that we will be blessed beyond measure when we give. Trusting God to do what He says will release us into gracious giving. It will turn us into crazy joyous givers, because we understand that we can never out give God.
I am asking God to increase grace for giving. This is not just generous giving; it is accountable and obedient giving. I have had times where God directed me not to give. That is a hard thing to do especially in public. I mean when people are passing a bucket I don’t like to let it pass by, but I have had to at times. There have been other times when I thought I was going to be generous and God had a bigger idea about generosity. That is when the grace for giving better kick in big time!
It is imperative that we continue to grow in our trust for what God says. We do not want to stop short of the Kingdom of God. We must move into the realm of God’s overflowing blessing so that people will see what an awesome God He is. Lord help us to trust the grace for giving that is in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Get ready to be blessed.
