GOD CALLING
We are Christ's ambassadors, and God is using us to speak to you. (2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT)
Wow, now that is a pretty bold thing that Paul declares! How can Paul say such a thing? He can say it because he is confident in God’s faithfulness. He knows that he has nothing to offer and that he is totally dependent upon God and for this reason he boldly declares that God is using them to speak.
Did you ever think that God might be saying a lot more than you have the confidence to hear? I was praying this morning and I asked God to tell me what He wanted for me today. He told me that I could not receive it all at once, and that is why He talks all day! As always, He was right. When God begins to speak to us, we expect just a couple words, or maybe a few at the most. The thought that came to me was that God speaks in chapters, but we usually only have confidence for a short sentence.
Think about it. Have you ever felt like God was talking to you, and just a few words into it you began to wonder if it was really God because He was saying so much? The truth is that we usually do not expect Him to say much to us. We hope that He will stop us if we are going the wrong way, or that He will give a hint now and then of what would be best, but when it comes to Him really laying out a plan; well we think that was more like what Moses got, or Paul, or someone else. I wonder how much He tells us that we forget?
The real truth is that God wants to use each and every one of us just like Paul said. Remember, God chose you. You did not choose Him. He assures us that He will answer when we call. However, we also know that He stands at the door and knocks. God is calling us all the time. He is saying things to help us and to build us up. He is saying things to guide us, showing us where to plant seeds and what to plant and where to harvest.
In the fourth chapter of 2 Corinthians, we read that when we turn to the Lord the veil is removed and we can see the liberty that is in Christ. He goes on to tell us that this happens so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. In order for us to turn to the Lord we had to respond to His call. Yes God was calling you just as He is calling the whole world. How long did God call you before He got your attention? Did you know it was His voice right from the start, or were you like me? It took me a long time to dare to think that I heard God, but that is the only way it can happen. He may use other ambassadors and means, but the bottom line is that God called and we answered.
Now He has much more to say. The question is how much are we prepared to hear? Are we willing to keep hearing and obeying? God is talking and you can expect to hear His voice. When we come to Him confident of hearing his voice, we will be able to go out confident that we too are ambassadors that God is using.
