GOD HAS SPOKEN

Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. But now in these final days, He has spoken to us through His Son. (Hebrews 1:1-2a NLT)

It is good for us to be reminded that God spoke long ago and that He is still speaking today. Just as the Holy Spirit was reminding the people then, so He is reminding us today. God made us for fellowship that we might know and worship Him. He walked in the Garden with Adam. He spoke to Noah about the boat and to Moses from a burning bush. He spoke to all of Israel from the mountain and their response was that they would rather He talked to Moses and let Moses tell them. Still, I have to think that in all of Israel there had to be a few who really did want God to speak to them, but they were robbed because others did not. Just a quick side thought here; don’t let anyone rob you of the joy of hearing from God.

The Holy Spirit goes on to remind them that now God has spoken to them in person once again, only this time through His Son who He promised everything to as an inheritance. As I look at this, I see God going on to establish the credentials of our Lord Jesus and at the same time He is establishing our credentials as his children through Christ our savior.

As God declares who Jesus was and is and always will be, we see the picture of who we are in Christ. We should be encouraged by the promises and challenged to press into the possibilities, because we have been told that nothing is impossible with God. We have been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. He calls us His brothers and sisters. God calls us His children. God said that He promised everything to Jesus, His Son, as an inheritance. We are called joint heirs with Jesus. These are all words that God has spoken, not words that someone else has made up. Remember, all scripture is given by the inspiration of God and it is good. It is good for instruction, direction, encouragement, and reproof and for all things that we need. And God the Holy Spirit stands ready to lead us into all truth.

We might wonder sometimes why in the world those folks needed a reminder already. After all, many of them had seen and heard Jesus personally. They all grew up hearing about the things that God had spoken to the prophets. They knew that everything that God said would happen did happen. Perhaps they were a bit like us and they did not always remember or pay close attention to the things that God said. I am thankful that God put it down so we could benefit from it. However, the only way we can benefit from it is if we believe it and walk in it.

God even went to far as to warn us not to neglect it. It is too good to miss. Many people in our day and age do not see what is so great about salvation. God gave us the word so that we could walk in it and show people what is so great about it. Jesus came and provided the example of God’s great salvation and told us to follow it. God has spoken and will speak to you and me and He will guide us into all truth. Don’t doubt it. Walk in it.
