GOD IS ABLE

Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare to ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]--to Him be glory...forever and ever. (Ephesians 3:20-21 TAB)

As I pondered “covenant confidence,” the Lord encouraged me that we need to have more confidence in what He can do than we have in our ability to keep Him from doing it. Think about that. We can come up with more excuses for God to break His promises than we can for reasons that He cannot fail.

This scripture in the Amplified Bibles is pretty wordy, but if we will take the time to look at what it says, we should be greatly encouraged. It is a verse that is often quoted but how often do we apply it. We like to hear it, but that is often all the further it goes. We say, “amen, I believe that,” but forget it when we really need to apply it to our circumstances. Why do we do that? I think it is because we just do not have confidence in the depths of God’s love and devotion to us.

We forget that He is not a man. We think that His devotion and love our limited to the depth of our devotion and love and when we really need Him, we become very aware of our lack of devotion. We remember how much we have not prayed or read our Bible. We remember how we have not witnessed or how we have failed to fellowship. We remember everything but the most important things.

We forget that nothing is able to separate us from God’s love. We forget that if we repent of those things we have failed to do, that God hears and forgives us and we can start all over. We forget that God is able to overcome all of our shortcomings and do everything He has promised. The only thing that can keep Him from doing superabundantly for us is us. If we won’t believe, it is very difficult to receive.

Remember, when we are born again, His power begins to work in us. Before then, He was working around us drawing us, but now His power is at work in us. Because of that, He is able to carry out His purpose in our lives. He has a purpose and He can get it done. We need to maintain our devotion to and our confidence in His ability. We do not have to understand why He bothers with us, and it does not matter what others may think or say. Jesus said that we did not choose Him, He chose us and we can produce good fruit and enjoy the fruit of His favor.

I have to admit that I don’t dream or imagine as much as I should. For more than twenty years I have simply been in awe that God bothered with me. Before I was saved, I wanted to be an entertainer. I once said that I would sell my soul to be in Los Vegas! Fortunately, God got me before I got that done.

The other day, God asked why I would have that much confidence in the devil to help me get that dream but I have never asked Him to do that large of things in my life. To be honest I had no answer. I simply have a witness in my spirit that some things are about to change! I did sort of wonder why He waited twenty-two years to pose that question, but then, His timing is always perfect. So my goal is to put all my trust in Him. I want to focus on His ability and His promise and not limit Him to my understanding or according to my performance. I am going to imagine more!
