GOD IS GOOD
Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Christ did. (1John 2:6 NLT)
As we begin a new year I find myself with only one thought that feels good, and that is that God is good. I am not on some super spiritual plane, the fact is that my body is catching up to its healing and those are the only thoughts that feel good. I am sure that you have experienced those times when any sort of mental effort seemed to bother your stomach. Well I discovered today that as long as I was thinking or saying God is good I felt much better. So I figure it is a great way to start a new year with my main thought being the most important thought that one can have. My goal is to keep that as my main thought no matter how I feel.
We ended last year declaring that love lasts. Jesus loved God and lived His life declaring the goodness of God. He did not just talk about how good God was, is, and always will be, He revealed the goodness and the love of God by His actions. He healed the sick, cast out demons, and brought hope to the hopeless, just to mention a few activities. The great part was that He did all this as a normal part of life. He was not pressed into doing it. Zeal for God consumed His life. It was a natural outflow as a result of His relationship with His Father.
1 Corinthians 14 begins with the words, “Let love be your highest goal, but also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives, especially the gift of prophecy.” A loving relationship with God will produce love for others. It is up to us what we do with it. We really should desire the special gifts from God so that we can help people to know Him. People who do not desire to do or see miracles must not realize that these gifts are part of the package that Jesus gives to reveal God to this world.
He said that He would be our Father. Some have a hard time seeing God as a personal and loving God. They want to put Him way out there out of reach. I think that is because if He is far away, then they can make their own rules. Why anyone would want to complicate the simple truth of Jesus Christ is beyond me. If God wants to be my Father who am I to complain? If He wants me to come to Him through Jesus Christ, who am I to decide it is too simple. He said that the gospel was hidden from those who think they are wise. People who think they are well do not need a physician. And yet, truly wise people still seek Him.
Call me simple, call me brainwashed, call me anything you want, but I will call myself a follower of Jesus Christ. It is nice to follow someone who forgives me I when I do not follow perfectly. It is nice that His promises are true and I can be sure He will not change the rules at the last moment. It is nice to have a true friend who has only good plans for me. Truly God is love and God is good. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. He came to give me life and will come back one day to take me home. Now that feels good!
