GOD IS WORKING
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him (Phil 2:13)
Never think that you cannot do what is necessary to please God! If you are a Christian, He is working in you and empowering you to do just that. Even if you are not a Christian, He is working to draw you to Him so that He can empower you to do what is best for you.
So, we need only to examine ourselves. Do we desire to please God? Do we hate it when we fail to do what we know is right? You and God are the only ones who can answer that! God is doing His part, are we willing to do our part?
The apostle Paul battled doing what he really wanted to do and the things he did not want to do. He said that it seemed like the very things he wanted to do failed to do and that he found himself doing what he did not want to do. His answer was Jesus. Jesus can fix it! There is nothing we cannot do if we desire to please God. He will help us fix it.
Time is not an issue for God, but Jesus did tell us that today would be the day we should fix it if we hear it. Take the power of God. Rely on the Holy Spirit to take you beyond what you can hope or imagine.
Yes, God is giving us the right desires and the power to perform them. When our desires line up with His, we start with praising and thanking Him. Nothing pleases God more than our praise and gratitude. In fact, praising and thanking God are power builders. When Christ is in us, we always have a desire to praise and thank God. We do not need a specific thing to thank Him or praise Him for; we praise Him because He is!
I remember when I had no idea how anything really worked in a relationship with God and I would say to Him, “God I don’t know how this works, but I just feel like praising you!” I think our bodies respond to the goodness of God. In the same way our bodies often yield to the flesh, Christ in us reaches for God.
So, think about the things that you do that simply do not feel right. Think about the things you know you should stop doing but have been fooled by the devil into believing you can’t, or that you think are no big deal, but they still bother you.
Take something simple like foul language escaping your lips. In the natural world, that stuff flies around everywhere, but that does make it right. Would we expect Jesus to talk like that? Don’t be afraid to talk nice! Fear of not fitting in can cause us to do a lot of things that we know better than to do.
Lord help me to do what you put in my heart to do and strengthen me to resist the devil and my own flesh. Yes, sometimes it is simply our own flesh that we give in to. I have heard people say that it is just the way they are, and God will let it slide. Neither of these is true! If Christ is in us, we are no longer like that. Cast down those imaginations! We were made to prefer God. He is doing a work in us! Let’s work with Him!
