GOD REMEMBERS
For He remembered His holy promise, and Abraham His servant. He brought out His people with joy, His chosen ones with gladness.(Psalm 105:42&43 NKJ)
Many people are convinced that God just goes around looking for our sins and remembering them, but the truth is, He would rather forgive us and forget them. The things that God most likes to dwell on, are His promises to His people. He loves to see us move into the position where by we can receive them. That position is in a place called trust. Trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.(Psalm 37:5)
When we read the accounts of God’s chosen ones, it is easy to see that they messed up more often than not. Yet they would cry out, and God would deliver them. Sometimes He just delivered even when they were messed up. Why? Because God remembered His promise to them. Everything else may pass away, but His Word is good forever. Sometimes God just did things to reveal Himself to them and remind them who was in charge, and who loved them.
In Isaiah 44, God poses the question of who can proclaim as He does. He then suggested that if there is someone, then let them do it and set things in order. Well, the fact is, no one else can. And no one can lay things out as perfectly as He can. And no one loves us like He does. And sadly, no one is slower to believe this than we are.
As I consider these things, I wonder if all that God is doing in the world today, might not be result of Him letting us know that He remembers His promise. And that He would really like us to move into that place of trust. Could it be, I think it is, that we are just barely seeing the tip of what God will do if we will only call upon Him while He is so near.
In our busy world, it is so easy to get so caught up in the hurry of everything and forget just how dependent we are on God. We can get to thinking that we can handle almost everything on our own, when in fact, we can not even breathe without God. God could simply take our breath away to remind us to look to Him, but instead, He chooses to fulfill His promises to get our attention. Wow is He great or what. We, on the other hand would sometimes be more inclined to take the breath away from someone than to do good for them to get their attention.
I know there are some who seem to think it is wrong to seek God for blessings, but it was God’s idea in the first place. He remembered His promise to Abraham that He would bless him and make him a blessing. Truly, if we want to be blessed only for our own benefit, that is wrong. But if we will move into the place of trusting God to bless us so that we in turn can be a blessing, what could be wrong with that.
