GOD WANTS

In every place of worship, I want men to pray with Holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy. (1 Timothy 2:8 NLT)

Sometimes it is easy and other times it is hard, but still it is what God wants. It is a goal to shoot for. It is something we should desire at least, because it is what God wants. We should desire everything that God wants. It is because of those desires that we are sometimes angry and filled with controversy. That is not so bad if it is really because we want what God wants. Only we know if it is our desire for the will of God or for our own pride or selfish reasons that we may not even be totally aware of.
So what is that all about? Well, I am seeking a greater understanding myself. You see, I think deep down that all who believe in Christ want what He wants. The problem is we sometimes want other things and because of that we try to set aside what He wants. We seldom admit that we are doing that. Usually we use the excuse that we do not really know exactly what God wants. My experience is that when I am tempted to go with that excuse, I really do sort of know.
So this verse gives us a clue as to how to get past all that. Lift Holy hands up to God. Some folks may be hesitant about the hands up to God idea, but it is useful to set your sights on Him. Look to Him with holy hands. Don’t use the excuse that no one is holy either. Jesus made you holy. All of our actions may be catching up, but with a broad stroke, God has declared you holy through Christ Jesus. You have been and are being purified by the Word.
When we set our sights on God with a determined focus unrighteous anger is going to have to let go. We may have to focus for a bit, but it will lose its grip on us. Oh, and just so you know, wherever we are, is a place of worship when we make it so.
Look at it this way. Right now we are in the midst of hunting season. There are bow hunters, rifle hunters, and shotgun hunters a plenty. I have not taken time to hunt for many years, but I remember well that when you aim well you hit what you shoot at. If you do not bother to aim, you might get lucky on occasion, but it will not be consistent.
The shotgun gives you a little more pattern, but even then it is best to pay attention. I think we may all be guilty of doing a lot of flock shooting. You know just throw something out there and hope for the best. When it comes to the rifle and the bow there is the calming of oneself, breathe, hold, and squeeze or release. Accuracy is of the utmost importance.
If we want accuracy, we need to do all we can to focus. Lift up those hands. Breathe in the presence of God. Release those things that come against you. Let the wind of the Holy Spirit guide you. Good shooters know about wind too. So, this is what God wants. What do you want?
