Well, since the Holy Spirit is God’s guarantee, then we can count on the fact that the Holy Spirit comes into everyone’s life that believes in Jesus Christ for salvation. He is the power source for everyone who will turn on the switch. He made his grand entrance into the lives of the 120 who were gathered in that room so many years ago and He has remained and will remain forever. Some would wonder why He does not just take over since He is so powerful? He is not that way. He will however take over what ever we give to Him and continue cooperate with Him to accomplish.

A person who has never seen an electric light might at first be scared when they see it come on. Then when they get comfortable with it they might just stand in awe of it. When it goes off, they would wonder what happened. Then if someone showed them the switch and told them to turn it on, they might be apprehensive to touch the switch. They might even refuse to do it. But if they really want that light on, they will ultimately hit the switch and rejoice that they can do it themselves. Now take that same light and tell them that they can keep the light for their very own. Well that is what Jesus said we would do when the Holy Spirit comes. He is our very own. He has a special relationship with each of us. We need not be afraid of Him; we need not hesitate to release His power in our lives. We do not have to worry about Him wearing out like a light bulb. He is a battery that is always charged and always ready to respond.

He does not just guarantee salvation. He guarantees life. He guarantees that we can do and be all that the Word of God calls us to do and be. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that we can live worthy of our calling as Ephesians 4:1 instructs us to do. Without God we are not worthy of anything nor could we do anything worthy of God’s favor, but the Holy Spirit empowers us to walk a walk worthy of the favor of God.

He enables us to walk humbly and patiently with one another, and to be bound together in peace. We are united by the Holy Spirit. There are always struggles arising when we walk in the flesh, in the Spirit we are united. When we yield to the Holy Spirit, those other things will disappear.

It is the Holy Spirit that energizes those good gifts that each one has. He also gives special gifts at special times. In order for us to operate in those gifts, we must be yielded and ready at the time He offers them. The Holy Spirit guarantees that all that God has promised will always be available to all believers, but that does not mean that we will always operate perfectly. No, we must fight the good fight of faith and yield ourselves to the His guidance. Ephesians 4:24 says that we must display a new nature. We have a guarantee and a choice that goes with it. As always, choose life.
