GOD'S HEART

"No, don't be afraid. Indeed, I myself will take care of you and your families."(Gen. 50:21)

When we looked at Joseph’s life we took note that with God’s hand upon him even the worst things turned out well for him. In fact, things just kept getting better and better. We would really like to believe that God will do that for each of us, but the truth is we doubt that it will. We believe it a little bit for a little while every once in a while, but to expect it everyday is a hard thing for most of us.

I am not certain that Joseph walked with great expectations through it all, but I am certain that He walked with God, and that is the key for all of us. In this verse of scripture I think we can see why God’s hand was with Joseph, and how we can expect His hand to be with us as well. Joseph had God’s heart. Joseph grew up the favorite of the family, so he knew the love of his father. Things always went well for him, except for the fact that he knew his brothers did not care much for him. They were jealous of the love his father gave him. I don’t know what Joseph thought when things fell apart as he started on his journey to Egypt. It would seem it made a prayer warrior out of him. By the time the problem arose with his masters wife we remember that he would not sin against God. God’s heart does not sin against God.

God told us that he would put a new heart in us, and God’s hand is always with God’s heart. Even with all that his brothers had done to him, Joseph wanted to take care of them and their families. In the same way, no matter what sins we committed against God, he wants to take care of us. He wants that so bad that He sent Jesus to prove it. God is good and His mercy endures forever. His heart in us is working to transform us.

If we want to see God’s hand in our lives, then all we need to do is express God’s heart. When His heart is in control, we have peace, joy, and love and all the fruit of the spirit flowing without any effort at all. In the same way, when we choke off the heart of God with gossip, unforgiveness, bitterness, selfishness, judging, and etc. we don’t feel his hand or the peace that goes with it.

Perhaps the reason we fail to love as God loves is that we have not fully appreciated how much He loves us. Maybe we have not felt as loved as someone else. Maybe we are bit like Joseph’s brothers and resent it when someone is loved, rather than going to our father knowing that He loves us just as much because He said so in His word. Joseph told his brothers that it was up to God to judge them; he was just going to love them. God says to us that he does not want to judge us; he just wants to love us. Jesus made the way for us to move into that love.

Let’s face it; we all need to love more. We need to guard our mouths and open our hearts to ensure that the Love of God is poured out through us. I know I want the hand of God and the blessings that go with it working in my life and I believe that I will see that increase in proportion to the heart of God that my life manifests. What do you think?
