GOD'S LOVE CAN BLESS YOU
Live in such a way that God's love can bless you as you wait for the eternal life that Jesus Christ in His mercy is going to give you. (Jude 21)
We don’t live for God just for the blessings. We live for God so that He can bless us. The truth is, according to God’s own words, He wants to bless us. Blessing is God’s idea. I know that it is possible to get out of balance when all you look for is God’s blessings. I also know that people can get knocked clear out of everything if they don’t look for any blessings. Without blessings it is all works and that wears people out.
There are benefits in knowing God. In His case it is always true that it is not so much what you know as it is how well you know the One who you know. There are lots of people who know a lot about God, but have never come to know Him for who He is. When we know Him, we know Him not only for His judgment and justice, but also for His love, blessings, and benefits.
Jude warned the people to live in a way that would allow God’s love to bless them as they waited for eternal life. The same exhortation is good for us today. As you read Jude you see that he had a plan to just write about salvation, but some things had come up that he had to address. It seems some folks had come to the conclusion that they could just keep living any old way they wanted because God would forgive them anyway. The truth was that if they did that they were turning against Christ, and their fate would be worse than if they had never known God at all.
Jude went on to address other issues before he told them to live so that God’s love could bless them. Do you know that God’s love is a blessing all the time? In the best of times and the worst of times His love will sustain us because nothing can separate from His love. It is a lie of the devil that tells people that God must not love them if things go wrong, as if God loved by the same standards that man does. God’s love is unconditional.
So how do we live so that God’s love can bless us? We live by faith. We live believing that every word of God is true. We live believing that He wants to change our lives and that He can change our lives. We give ourselves to Him, and we make a point of being where He can bless us. We must be present to win. We can know all about what it takes to be with Him, but if we don’t enter in we will be standing in the wrong place with the winning ticket. I went to church for 30 years without being present. If my number had been drawn I would not have won. God’s love was always present; I just was not in a position to have His love bless me. Oh I praise Him for His patience and mercy during that time.
Let’s all strive to live in such a way that God’s love can bless us and with a deep desire to bless others and see them experience the love of God that will bless them.
