GRAB IT
"Where did it fall?" the man of God asked. When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it into the water. Then the ax head rose to the surface and floated. "Grab it," Elisha said to him. And the man reached out and grabbed it.(2 Kings 6:6-7 NLT)
I realize that on first look this does not seem like the typical scripture for Resurrection Sunday, but this is what has been speaking to me for couple days now. Most of you are probably familiar with this story when the ax head floated. One of Elisha’s students had borrowed the ax and then lost it in the water. God floated it back to the surface for them. In the New King James, Elisha told the man “pick it up for yourself.” The New Living Translation says, “grab it.”
So why talk about this today. Well, all over the world there will be people going to church. For many of them this may be one of only a few times a year, and perhaps the only time for many others. For those who are followers of Jesus, we need to pray that Jesus will be lifted up in these services all over the world. As He is lifted up, we must pray that eyes will be opened to see the miracle. Just as it was a miracle that an ax-head floated, so it is a miracle when our eyes are opened to the truth of Jesus Christ.
When we see it, we have to grab it. We have to pick it up for ourselves. No one else can do it for us. On this special day of worship, I believe there are a lot of opportunities for people to grab eternal life. Many of these people will not even be looking for eternal life. They will just be going because it is the thing to do. Or maybe they will be going because some family member talked them into doing a family thing. For what ever reason, there is still the possibility of a miracle taking place.
Beyond the miracle of salvation for some, there are also many other opportunities for life. There are always truths that are being brought forth. There are things that we catch a glimpse of, that speak to our hearts, and we must grab them. We must pick them up for ourselves. If we don’t, they will slip away from us, and who knows when they will float up again, or if they ever will.
If that student had not grabbed that ax-head when the prophet told him, it probably would have sunk back to the bottom. In the same way, if we do not grab the truth when God presents it to us, our eyes may not open to it again. So if we are believers, we need to pray this day that many will raise up the truth and that many in turn will grab it and come to know our resurrected savior.
At the same time, we must pray for one another that our eyes will be wide open for greater revelation, and that we will grab all that God floats up for us. We know that every day is a day to celebrate Jesus, may many more grab this truth today.
