GRADUATION DAY
Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them. (Acts 4:24b NKJ)
What a glorious day it is when we come to understand that the Lord is God. Some would say that everyone knows that, but of course that is far from the truth. In fact it really is a small percentage of the world that knows this most important thing that anyone can ever know. I think it is even safe to say that there is a large percentage of the people who believe in the existence of God who do not know Him as Lord!
It is not enough to know that God exists. There is no fulfillment in simply believing He is out there somewhere. In fact, more than anything, I think acknowledging His existence without experiencing His lordship creates emptiness in people that nothing can ever fill. Knowing about God without coming to know God, can create some pretty big problems. This was the state that Saul was in as he went off to persecute the people who knew God. What a difference it made when he graduated from knowing about God to knowing the Lord!
Scripture tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. This is not shaking, trembling, stay away from Him fear. This is the kind of respect for who He really is and what He can do. It is like understanding what a fire arm is and what it can do, or the power of an automobile. People do not need to fear using guns or driving cars, they simply need to handle them with respect. When we come to know God as Lord, we begin to respect and honor Him for who He is and what He can do. He is not just good for some people, He is best for all people.
The proof for people is not in the telling or the selling of the gospel, but in the living and showing. The revelation is in what people can see of Jesus in our lives. Will we allow God to prove His word through our lives? Will we believe in His provision and allow Him to bless us to overflowing and then use that overflow for His glory? Will we trust Him for health and healing and allow that to overflow into the lives of others. Will we lay hands on the sick and see them recover? Will we cast out demons, and call upon the angels of God in Jesus name? According to Jesus, these are the signs that will follow those who know Him.
This is why it is so important that our lives focus on what is right in the sight of God and doing it. God can and will take care of the rest, if we will focus on what is most important. I am so thankful that I came to know God and that I have experienced so much of His goodness. However, if I fail to reveal it to the world around me I stop short of God’s intended purpose for His goodness. That may be a greater sin than not knowing Him at all. At the very least, it is a waste of God’s blessings.
I pray that everyone would graduate into knowing not only that God is, but knowing that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. I also pray that all who know Him would be consumed with showing Him to a world that needs Him so much more than they realize. I know this is true, because I was once one of those, and so were you. The world is full of two kinds of people; those who know God and those who need to know to God. Have you graduated?
