GUIDED TOURS
However, when He, the Spirit of Truth has come, He will guide you into all truth. (John 16:13)
Most of us have been on one sort of a guided tour or another and we know that there are rules as well as people to guide us. That is why it is called a guided tour! When we went on a tour recently, we stood in line to sign up and pay for our tickets. We were told the time and place we needed to be in order to participate. When the time came, they lined us up and told us the rules and off we went. When we arrived at the place they told us the rules once again, rushed us in and locked the doors behind us. The point here is that if we wanted to be a part of the tour, we needed to follow the guide and listen to the rules.
In the same way, Jesus told us that He was going away and that He would send us a tour guide who would guide us into all truth. He assured us that this guide would tell us exactly what He heard, and that He would tell us the things to come. Sounds a lot like the guide that led Jesus doesn’t it? Remember Jesus said that He did not do anything except for what He saw the Father do and He did not say anything except for what He heard the Father say.
So did Jesus know everything before He got here? Did He know the whole plan when He was 5? I don’t think so. He knew that He needed to be about His Fathers’ business, but it is obvious that He followed the same guide He promised us.
For instance, right after Jesus was baptized and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him, He was led into the wilderness. He had a guide. Did He know they were headed out there for 40 days, or did he simply follow the guide? I really do not know. I would tend to think that He was on the tour and paid close attention to the guide. He was our example, and since He tells us to follow the guide, we can take comfort and knowing that the Holy Spirit did a good job for Jesus and He will do a good job for us.
Was it mandatory for Jesus to follow the guide? Did God force Him? No! Jesus had a choice just like we do. More than one person has wandered away from a group on a tour and been lost in a cave or an exhibit. More that one person has disobeyed the rules and caused many people problems because of their failure to follow the guide. It is amazing to hear people try to blame God, when in fact they simply ignored the guide.
The point here is that God sent His Son, Who sent the Holy Spirit to guide us and if we are wise, we will allow Him to do His job! He will show us what God is like. He will lead us into all truth and into the peace of God. He knows God’s plans for us and He knows we will never be disappointed if we follow Him.
Don’t be deceived by what is not the truth. Don’t listen to things that appose the truth. Stay close and be confident that He will lead you into all truth.
