HAVE WE FORGOTTEN

So Israel did evil in the Lord's sight. They forgot about the Lord their God. (Judges 3:7 NKJ) Oh God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your temple. (Psalm 48:9 NKJ)

It is truly a sad thing when we forget God. We may try to comfort ourselves thinking that at least we don’t go and serve false gods like Israel did, but since there is only one true God, if we forget Him we are out there serving someone or something else.

They say that you hurt the ones you love because you can get away with it. The truth is we really never get away with it. There is always a cost. There is always damage that takes place. This is especially true when we forget God.

Yes God is good and loving and forgiving. He never stops being good, but His goodness toward us is interrupted. He never stops loving us, but there is a road block that keeps us from receiving it. He is always ready to forgive, but we must repent in order to receive it. In the mean time, we have the opportunity to experience life on our own with God at a distance, and it is not fun. This may be why it is the mean time!

What is amazing is how long we fight to exist this way, determined to exercise our right to be bitter, unforgiving, selfish, and self centered, or feeling sorry for ourselves. You can add your own list if you like, but in all of this, we are simply forgetting God. We all have done it, but it is time to resolve to never do it again. Jesus told Peter that he would recover and once he did, he should strengthen the others. We should all desire to get strong and train others to be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

We live in a nation that is being encouraged to forget God, but God says we can do something about that. We are to pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways and He will heal our land. We better believe that God can do it!

While others are trying to forget God, we have the opportunity to exalt Him so that no one can forget Him. Psalm 48 starts out praising God and rehearsing things that have happened along the way. In verse 8 they declare that what they heard they had opportunity to see. In other words, God said it and God did it. His word is established forever. We better believe it!

Then is verse 9 it says, “We have thought O God, on your loving kindness in the midst of Your temple.” This prompts more thoughts on praise and remembering and then reminding them to be sure and tell the next generation so they will know that, “This is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.”(vs. 14)

The key to never forgetting is to keep Him ever before us. Allow His thoughts to be your thoughts. Make His way your preferred way. Expect Him to be your guide forever and ever. He will do it. Never forget it!
