HAVE YOU BEEN WITH JESUS
They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. (Acts 4:13 NLT)
There is something that happens when we spend time with Jesus. It produces changes in our lives that we may or may not recognize. If are going a wrong way we may feel uneasy. There may also be extreme peace that comes over us without us really knowing where it came from.
The truth is that many of these things happened to us long before we ever considered Jesus, because the Holy Spirit has been working forever to bring people close to God. All of the things going on behind the scenes of our lives have been working together to produce a story of the goodness of God in our lives. The story is just waiting for us to jump in to an active role.
The disciples were just people living their lives as best they could when Jesus walked by and invited them to follow Him. That is all any of us are when He comes along. We could be anything from the worst criminal to most religious zealot, but when He comes we have the opportunity to simply be with Him and everyone has the same opportunity.
Last week I had a thought and it just keeps rolling over and over in my heart and mind. It was actually something that I heard myself say and it stopped me in my tracks. I was speaking in a Chapel at the Jail when I heard myself say that God has never had a bad thought about you or a bad word to say about you. It causes me to pause every time. Now when I heard it, I had to stop and chew for a while. The more I have considered it, the more I am convinced it is true.
God knows His plans and what He wants for us. Yes His word points out all that is bad or good and death and life and He wants us to choose life. He is able to keep His eye on our prize. He tells us to think on good things. He tells us to think on possibilities. It stands to reason that He is going to do the same thing.
Most people at one time or another before Christ and maybe more so after Christ is in their lives are haunted by thoughts of how disappointed God must be in them. It is hard to convince people or ourselves that God dwells on our success and not our failure. Time with Jesus will change even that. Remember He says He will comfort, uphold and strengthen us.
So if you feel defeated, spend time with Jesus. In all things, spend time with Jesus. You do not have to spend hours, but you may want to. Take advantage of every opportunity.
I had the joy of about a four hour motorcycle ride this week. I made a conscious effort to pray and praise for the whole way. Of course my mind wandered but I jerked it back where it belonged. I prayed and sang in tongues for most of the trip. It was a great time with Jesus. If we spend time with Him; He changes things. Have you been with Jesus? I need more now!
