HE CAME AS PROMISED
We must be careful to obey all the rules of the Lord our God. When we do this, we become good people. Everything that we do will be right. (Deuteronomy 6:25 EASY)
We believe that Jesus came just as promised, right? Of course, not everyone does. There are many who have never heard and many that have heard do not care. Until we at least grasp the possibility that Jesus could be the solution to all things, He does not matter much.
David spoke of how he used to go to the temple and how he loved it. Then he comes to the place where he realizes he is experiencing what I call stinking thinking. He is questioning his circumstances and feeling sorry for himself; then he remembers to praise the Lord! (Psalm 42) Scripture says men and women, girls and boys, should all praise the Lord. The birth of Jesus is something to praise the Lord about!
So what does this have to do with obeying the Lord? Sometimes, we might just be guilty of forgetting that Jesus’ birth did not remove our responsibility of obeying God. After all, I was born into the house of Day and I had to obey the rules of Corky and Nadine. I could not say that I was their son and they had to take care of everything else.
They knew I would need guidance. I think they probably wondered what I did with the guidance they gave me sometimes. I am glad that the Lord is patient. Still, He does require that we have a willing heart that desires him.
I think of the disciples and how they walked with Jesus and saw all He did and then they would shake their heads wondering who He was and where He came from.
We all love it when God does what we want. We really think He knows what He is doing when we pray and get the answer that we want. We also seem to get easily confused when for some reason or another things are not going our way. We wonder if we did something wrong or if God has forgotten us. We seem to forget His track record! We forget His power and His wisdom.
In Deuteronomy God was reminding them of what He was giving them and what He expected. He told them not to forget to fear failing Him. We know that scripture says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I had a healthy fear of failing to follow my dad’s rules. Probably in all honesty I had a healthy fear of him finding out that I did not follow.
I really want to be able to say that I always follow all of God’s rules, but in truth I spend a good amount of time saying, “forgive me Lord.” It is good to ask for forgiveness. Yes, it is good to ask for forgiveness. Jesus came to forgive our sins and He does it perfectly. Praise the Lord.
