HE DID GOOD
Nevertheless He left not Himself without witness; in He did good...(Acts 14:17a KJV)
The witness or evidence of God is that He is good and He does good. He promises us that He works even the worst of things out for good if we will only trust Him. What could be better evidence of that than the very season that we now celebrate?
What good could possibly come of allowing your own son to be crucified? What parent would allow there child to ride down the road knowing that the cheers of the crowds would soon turn to demands for His crucifixion? The answer of course is a parent that so loved the world that He gave His own son so that those who would believe Him would not perish. Not only did He save us from Hell but He added everlasting life as a bonus. Remember, everlasting life is not just heaven, as wonderful as it will be. Everlasting life includes every single day from the time we are born again on thru eternity. And the witness of God is His goodness.
Remember, Jesus said that there is only one that is good and that is God. All goodness comes from Him. Any good thing that the worst person does is evidence that God made that person and some of God’s goodness leaked out. Before I was saved I did some good things and some bad things! I am not sure which way the scale would have tipped if I balanced one against the other. Of course by God’s standards, the good I did outside of a relationship with Him had no weight. Even those good things were as filthy rags. All the same, anything good and decent thing I did could only be attributed to the God who created me.
One big difference that takes place in our lives with God is that we give Him the glory for the good things. There are people all over the world doing good things and they are taking the credit for them, but the glory really belongs to God. I have decided that whenever I see or hear of something good that I am going to be sure to give God thanks and glory for it. After all, all good and perfect gifts come from God. Since there are only two forces at work in the earth, good and evil, we know whom to blame for the bad things. However, we need to be careful that we don’t get so busy talking about the bad things that we forget that God can and will turn it all to good. We may not always know the timing, or like the timing, but if we will stand in faith, we will see the evidence.
If you have read the bible or heard the story, you know that this triumphant entry, turned into a nightmare beyond the imaginations of Jesus family and followers. Try to imagine how they felt. Their hopes and dreams died before their very eyes. We have all experienced gut wrenching moments in life, but none quite like this. Then suddenly in God’s perfect timing He raised Jesus from the dead! The worst situation turned into an unbelievable victory! That victory is yours today. That victory offers you salvation and life. If your understanding of God is not producing life, perhaps you are not born again. If you are born again it feels like things are going from bad to worse, begin to praise God and trust Him. You can be sure that good is on the way. Live like you know it and your light will shine in the darkness bringing glory to God.
