HE GAVE US CONTROL

In Christ we were chosen to be God's people. God had already planned for us to be his people, because that is what He wanted. And He is the one who makes everything agree with what He decides and wants. (Ephesians 1:11 ERV)

When the Bible says that some things are difficult to understand, that seems to be a bit of an understatement. This verse tells us that God makes everything agree with what He decides and wants and yet we do not always see that happening. And since we are visual people we have a hard time believing what we do not see. But of course faith is believing without seeing and rejoicing when we do see. I do not profess to understand all things, but I hope to help us see something about control.

You see, God gave us control. We control how we think or at least how we respond to what we might think. We control how we believe. We control what we say and what we do. If we are honest we have to admit we control how we get out of control!

God is definitely in charge and can take control any time He chooses. However, He chose to give us control. For instance, a person may be in charge of a company, but he does not control what everyone else does. He can take control when he finds a problem, but still the control is in the people working for the company.

Just as a parent is in charge and for a time is control of the children, there comes a time when being in charge does not always result in total control. Children make their own choices.

Well, we are God’s children. We like Him being in charge. We like Him taking control when it is convenient, but we sometimes do not totally agree with His plan or His word. When this happens, we want to blame the one in charge, but He is not at fault.

At an airport, the man in the control tower is in charge of the planes landing and taking off and all traffic for miles away. However, the pilots are still in control the planes and they can in fact do what they want. They can ignore the control tower and produce terrible results. The one in charge may do everything perfectly but the fault is in the one who is in control.

Ultimately, God promises that He is going to take control, but for now He is the one in charge and has carefully expressed the plan to everyone who will believe and give control to Him. We have control. He has given us dominion. We need to be careful not to be so quick to question the one who is charge and look at who is in control. Things happen that God never desired or planned. Evil is in this world and we have been given power and authority to overcome it. We need to have an answer for those who question why God lets things happen. Well, just because He is in charge does not mean He is the one in control. It is amazing what He can do when we offer the controls to Him!
