HE LEADS
When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. (John 16:13 NLT)
In order to be led, we must desire to follow. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would lead us into all truth. He will guide us. He will not drag us, force us, trick us, or bribe us; He is a leader and He will make a leader out of us if we so desire.
So many times, people miss what God wants to do because they have no idea how He does things. People perish for a lack of knowledge and understanding.
People sometimes have the belief that if God wants something He will make them do it. There have been people who claim it was ok to have an affair because God never stopped them. Another good one is that when God wants someone to stop smoking or drinking He will take away the urge. He most certainly will help us, but we are required to desire His will and ways. Otherwise, we are putting the blame on God for the way we are. I could go deep into that one, especially in our current times, but that is for another day.
The truth is that we have a guide available and if we want to be led, He will lead us into all truth. It is the truth that makes us free. When we are free, we gladly walk into all joy. We can easily give up offenses, love those who hate us, and pray for those who use us.
Easily, may be a bit of an overstatement! We may be reluctant and slow to follow; we may drag our feet a bit, but ultimately if it is our desire to arrive at our destination, we will get there by following Him.
If we think about it, we can see that the difficult things are the things we really do not want to do. There are areas that we simply do not want to give up, so we look for excuses that allow us to go our own way. We could have ten different clear directions from ten good sources showing us the truth, but if we do not want to receive it, we will look for a random excuse from a questionable source so we can keep going our own way.
“I know that, but.” How many times have you heard someone say that? Have you said that? We say that to things that we either do not believe or do not want to receive. We say those things to God Himself when we read a clear word from Him Word, but it does not fit our plans.
Fortunately, Holy Spirit is always near to guide us. He reminds us of what we really want. Of course, we can ignore the reminder. We can put Him off. We can choose our own way! Thankfully He will not desert us. He will wait until we hopefully return and follow. Is there an area that you need to follow or where you have backed away completely? He is waiting.
