HE MAKES SENSE
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. (Ephesians 1:4)
Even when things do not make sense; He does. His ways and thoughts are above our ways and thoughts. When we come to the place where we just believe Him and accept the fact that He knows what he is doing, rest comes.
Unfortunately, most of us get caught in the trap of trying to make everything make sense according to our understanding. We do not like it when things do not make sense and we like it even less when we have come to make sense of one thing in a certain way and God changes the direction.
For instance, in our minds we assume that God moves between loving us and being disappointed in us. We do this because that is the way we are. When things go our way we are glad, when they do not, we are disappointed. When we are disappointed, the only way things can be okay is if we get our way! Thinking this way, it only makes sense that God acts like us when he does not get His way. But God does not lose sight of His plan. He does not get distracted and go down some trail that will not help anything. He just keeps speaking until we hear His voice and follow.
Paul tells us that God chose us to be holy and without fault in His eyes. The only requirement was believing in and receiving His son Jesus Christ. That may not make sense to us, but it makes perfect sense to God. Completing the good work He has begun is not a problem for God. He is great and He is able. Remember, if we can believe, all things are possible to them that believe.
It may be that the most important thing we can believe about God is that He is not disappointed in us. When we think someone is disappointed in us, it keeps us distant. It keeps us feeling disappointed that we have disappointed someone even if they may not know that we feel that way. All the pressure goes off once that feeling wears off or we realize that it was all in our minds. It is like being convinced that someone is mad at us when they do not even know why we think that. We have a lot of stuff in our heads that does not make sense but God always makes sense. Just believe it.
If we think God is disappointed in us we will waste a lot of time trying to figure out how to get back in His good graces. If we think we have figured it out, then we will think we got there by something that we did. I think people have written books about how they did it and others read them so that they could learn how to do it. Remember, there is nothing that we do that does it! It is all by grace. It makes perfect sense to God. Face it, there are just some things we will never see the sense in; so let’s just believe God. He makes sense.
