HE PROMISED

And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And He gave them right standing with Himself, and He promised them His glory. (Romans 8:30 NLT)

When Jesus prayed for His followers and all who would become His followers, He asked that God would give them the same glory that He had given Him. Paul writes and reminds us that He promised us His glory. His glory is something that I honestly can barely begin to comprehend. Amazing, is too small of a word to define it, and yet Jesus promised it to us. Though I may not be able to comprehend His glory, I do understand what a promise is. And I know that if we can begin to grasp what it means when all of His promises are yes and amen, our lives will be changed moment by moment.

I read a message recently by David Wilkerson concerning the peace of God and as I considered it, I realized that the greatest things I have experienced in my walk with God are related to His peace. He told the disciples that they could ask for anything in His Name and He would give it to them. This of course applies to us as well. But when it came to His peace, He did not wait for them to ask, He said He was giving it to them and that He was leaving it with them.

This is the same peace that made Jesus fearless in the face of the storm. It was the same peace that said to Pilot that he could have no power but the power that was given to him. It was the same peace that said, “not my will but thy will be done.” This same peace allowed Jesus to wait until a good friend was dead to go to him. He knew He could raise him from the dead. Peace told a father not to fear when his child died, and peace hung with Him on the cross.

From this peace, God received much glory. God has promised us overwhelming victory no matter what comes our way. The peace of God that passes understanding, keeps us standing confidently waiting as God keeps His promises.

Jesus breathed on the disciples and told them to receive the Holy Spirit. He also told them not to allow their hearts to be troubled. Can’t you picture their faces when He told them that? Can’t you imagine them saying, “You give us the worst news ever and then you tell us not to be troubled, how are we supposed to do that?” At that point Jesus says, “Here, I give you my peace! Not just for a test run, but you keep it forever!”

As time went by they learned to appreciate the power of that peace. I have been healed, delivered, protected, and provided for, along with many other things too numerous to list, but I do believe that the most powerful experiences I have had with God have come with His overwhelming peace. If you have experienced that, you know what I mean. If not, don’t let that promise escape you. Expect it to abide with and reside in you. Pray in the Spirit and wait on the Lord. He is the Prince of Peace.
