HE STOOD UP
But Jesus took Him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up. (Mark 9:27 NLT)
Jesus made it very clear that He came to give life to everyone who would believe. He came on the scene declaring the Kingdom of God. This was a new message that never gets old. This message thrilled the people. This message touched their hearts. Some people decided to walk in it and others let it slip away. Those who decided to walk in the newness of life and experience the Kingdom of God we not disappointed.
We read over and over again how Jesus cast out the demons, healed the sick, and made the lame to walk and the blind to see. This is what every person wants. Even those who claim they do not believe in Jesus really would like all these things for their lives. His words are just as alive and able to do all these things today, as they were when He, the living Word, walked this earth. If only we will believe it, Jesus’ presence in any situation changes things.
Once again in this account of scripture we see a situation that looks like a failure. It looks like the end. It looks like Jesus met his match. A man comes to Jesus and wants the demons cast out of his son. He tells how the demons have tried to kill the boy. Notice here that it is demons that do the killing. Often time’s people try to blame God but God is the giver of life, not the taker of life. It is the devil that comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
When the man comes He asks Jesus if He can do anything for the boy. Jesus tells him that if he can believe anything is possible. The man agreed to believe and added a request for help with any shortcomings in his belief. At that Jesus commands the evil spirit to come out. It amazes me that there are still so many people who prefer not to believe that there are evil spirits. It is even more amazing that many people believe evil spirits exist but refuse to believe in Jesus who is only One is stronger than there are.
Anyway, when Jesus prays the spirit leaves, but before he does, he does all the damage he can to the boy. Learn from this Christians and anyone else who has ears to hear. When you pray God answers. Don’t be surprised if the devil does all the damage he can on the way out of the territory. The devil hates you. God loves you.
Now as the boy is lying there and the crowd says, “He’s dead.” It looks like the end, but then Jesus takes his hand and helps Him up. When it looks like the end for you. When it looks hopeless and you feel helpless, look for Jesus. Never doubt that He is there to give you a hand. Don’t give up! It is not the end. It is an opportunity for a new beginning. It may be the death of one thing, but a greater life is ready to bloom.
Jesus helped this boy up and then he stood on his own. Jesus is always ready to help us up and then by faith in Him we can continue to stand. Without Him, we can’t do anything, but with Him all things are possible. Stand up with Jesus. Stand up for Jesus!
