HE SUSTAINS THE UNIVERSE
The Son reflects God's own glory and everything about Him represents God exactly. He sustains the universe by the mighty power of His command. After He died to cleanse us from the stain of sin, He sat down in the place of Honor at the right hand of the majestic God of heaven. (Hebrews 1:3 NLT)
For some people, the truths contained in this scripture are more than they care to accept. In fact, they are more than any of us can grasp with out natural understanding. However, when the Holy Spirit reveals them to us, they become very understandable and in fact we accept them as true. The next thing we need to do then is make them a part of us and allow God to work out in our lives what the Sprit puts in through His word.
I want to start with how God sustains the universe by His command. God takes care of everything from keeping the planets in proper rotation right down to the smallest detail of each of our lives. He has a plan to sustain everything. I say this because recently God spoke to me about studying the book of Hebrews. Well I did or at least I started, but I was not really getting done what I felt I should. Then today, God reminded of a book that I should read. The first miracle was that I found it. The second was that as I started to read it the first reference in the book was to Abraham and the first scripture was found in, you guessed it, Hebrews. Now some would try to say coincidence, I say God was taking care of details. For that, I just want to give Him Glory. I encourage you to look and see how Almighty God is helping you with the smallest details of your life.
Now let’s go back to the first part of the verse. God says that the Son reflects God’s own glory. Did you know that we are called the sons of God? Did you know that Jesus came to lead many sons to glory? So even though we certainly are not Christ, the anointing of the same Holy Spirit is on us and we too are a reflection of God’s glory. Or let’s say we can be if we will accept the truth and make it the desire of our hearts.
Jesus represented God exactly and He is in the process of helping us to do the same thing. We do not always do it perfectly, but from time to time we do okay and God loves that. For some this is a hard truth. It is hard to imagine that God would even want to reveal Himself in us. That is because we focus too much on our imperfections and not enough on God’s ability to perfect us. If we will just grasp what God wants to do in our lives and through our lives, then all the other stuff that surrounds us will get pretty small in comparison. We will be like Jesus when the crowd wanted to kill Him. He just walked right through them because He was on God’s schedule.
He sustains the Universe by the mighty power of His command, and His word says that we can speak to mountains and they will obey. He has given us some authority in this world to speak of things that are not as though they are. So here we are again with a choice of believing what God says or not. If we believe it, then we can choose to walk in it…or not. God help us all to bring glory to You.
