HE WAS DESPISED

He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. (Isaiah 53:3)

Every now and then I read the living word of God, and it leaves me sitting at a stop sign. Have you ever been the person that everyone is honking at because you were distracted and your mind was wandering? Nowadays we just figure someone is on their phone when they don’t move, or when they are going slow then fast etc. In this case it is just the truth staring at me. “I didn’t care.”

How could I not care? How could I simply overlook the truth for more than thirty years? The worst part is realizing that there have been times since then when my actions or words still say, “I don’t care.”

I do care when people use God’s name in vain or indicate that they could care less what God thinks about things. There are so many things around us that are so far from the truth, and the temptation is to just leave it be. What difference will it make if we say something? It makes a difference to God that we care. He sees us caring and praying. He sees us crying. He hears us asking.

It is not the response from others that makes the difference to God. It is our response. I admit that there are times when I despise those who despise God. How can I hate those who hate Him? David did say that, but Jesus said to love them and bless them.

We all know that we should hate the sin and love the sinner and we all at times fall short on that plan! These things are just side doors to the most important thing. We need to remember, to be determined in our hearts to care about Him.

As we remember His birth and remember that He is coming back, we need to remember that He is present and He cares! We should care too. Sometimes, we just may be guilty of only caring about what we care about. We might just comfort ourselves with our own selfishness. That is a pit that we do not want to fall into.

The truth is that our selfishness speaks to the fact that we care a lot. We have just lost our focus. Instead of focusing on the things around us, we begin to reject everything around us and the enemy convinces us that we must care to care about ourselves because no one else does it right.

We have been watching the David series on television, and yes, I know that some folks don’t like how they do or don’t portray the word of God but one thing they do well is portray the selfishness of King Saul. He did not care that he disobeyed God, all he could see was his own image. He despised Samuel and in so doing, he despised God.

God cares. Forgive us Lord for those times when we do not care. Help us to care like you do.
