HEAR IT AND DO IT
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (James 1:22)
What are you going to do? What should we do? I don’t know what to do. The answer is not, “just do something!” I wonder how many times in my life that I have just done something that later required more time to correct than it took to mess it up!
Have you ever heard someone say to just do something even if it is wrong? Knowing God, gives us another option. Ask Him. Yes, if you lack wisdom ask God. This of course, requires us realizing that God talks to us. It also requires that we believe this enough, not to doubt Him.
I was so blessed this week when Kids mania in the bible app had a little skit about being doers of the word of God. Hear it and do it. To everything God says, hear it and do it. It was catchy and it stayed on my mind.
It is amazing how something can be on your mind and you can override it! The great thing about it being on your mind and in your heart is that if you do not get it right the first time, it will be there to remind you! Of course, I would prefer to get it right the first time, but this is not always the case.
Have you ever said something just to say something, and it is something that you should not have said. If you have never done that, you are amazing. The truth is that God often tells us to think or pause or be still, but we miss that mark. Don’t give up! Keep seeking, listening, and pressing in. Hear it and do it.
This morning as I sat down in my chair to seek the Lord, I felt like I should go to the church and take care of emptying the de-humidifiers. My first response was that I should sit in my chair and have my time with God. My next thought was just do it. As I headed to the church, I saw that my brother John was there, earlier than usual. When I walked in, I saw water on the landing downstairs. That is not good! I discovered John attempting to stop flowing water. We had a bit of a mess.
It took a bit to figure out if it was fixable. It was not. It will wait. We will be a bit inconvenienced with no water, but as we did what we could do, we came to a solution. Two people listening to God is always good.
Does God care or know about plumbing? Of course, the answer is yes and yes. We need to know that He does. If we don’t know, we won’t seek. If we do seek and we doubt that God cares, we won’t care what God says. We won’t even hear Him. We might pray and act without Him because we don’t know any better. Hear it and do it! Listen and learn! Seek the Lord in all things. Believe that He is not only interested; He is completely attentive to your voice. Wow! Think about that!
