HEAR & UNDERSTAND

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar.(Isaiah 6:6)

As you read Isaiah chapter 6, you find tucked in the middle, this scripture which speaks of a touch from God. This seraphim(heavenly host), came as a result of Isaiah seeking God, seeing a heavenly vision, and humbling himself before God. When he did this, the messenger touched him and told him his iniquity was taken away, and his sins were purged.

This opened his ears to hear God calling for someone to send with a message, and Isaiah responded, “Here am I,! Send me.” If we have read the bible or heard the Word preached much at all, we are familiar with this passage as being referred to as the call or commission of Isaiah. It is in fact Isaiah’s call, but it would be a shame to get no more out of it than that.

First, we can see Isaiah seeking the Lord in a time of loss and despair, and the Lord responding. It reminds me that God will do the same for all of us who will seek Him with all our heart. Then we see, Isaiah responding to the presence of God. No matter how much we may pray, seek, or love God, His presence should cause to want to be extra clean, and ready for inspection. God is so awesome. Notice, that God did not say, “oh, you’re all right Isaiah, don’t worry about it!” Instead, God sent a messenger to touch him and declare that he was purged. Oh the Joy of sins forgiven!

Isaiah responded with a grateful heart! When the Lord was looking for a messenger, he told the Lord he was ready to go. The message, as I see it, was a revelation as well as a warning. The people could hear it and respond as Isaiah did to the presence of God and be changed. Or they could hear it and ignore it. Things have not changed much over a few thousand years, have they! We have the same opportunity daily! But we must respond to Him correctly, or verses 9 & 10 will describe us and our walk with God.

You see, we can seek the Lord and be touched by Him, and even respond to Him and still not go ahead and be changed. Lots of people want the sensational feelings, and times of praise, and to see the miracles. But when it comes to, whom shall I send, they just don’t have the time, or they are worried about what people will think if they take a stand for righteousness outside of the confines of the church, and the list goes on in a multitude of excuses that can and have been made.

If this happens to us, we can easily become people who keep going to church and hearing the word, but our senses become dull and we become hard and no change takes place. We can see great moves of the spirit and things happening all around us, but fail to perceive that this is Almighty God. So our response is kind of a ho hum and a yawn, and when will it all be over. Yes, we can respond that way, or we can look at this scripture and say, “God forgive me, I do not want to be like that. I want to be a holy seed, and I want everyone I know to be holy seed as well. Thank you Lord for opening my eyes. Thank you Lord for your presence. Than you Lord for everything. I am ready Lord…send me.”
